I have 2 1GIG Geil pc2-6400 DDR2 800CL 4-12-4-4
and 2 1 GIG dual ch. OCZ Platinum XTC PC2 6400 4-5-4-15

you selling? or asking if they're compatible?
for what I understand your mobo will run them at the lowest setting 800, but some mobo's wont post. my old dual core p4 had 2 1g and 2 512 for a total of 3k ram. I never had a problem playing ah or anything else.

adding..... what i have running are the Geils, the OCZ's were given to me.

I think what you have is 4-4-4-12 and 4-5-4-15 which you will probably have to run at 5-5-5-15 in order to get them stable but its going to take time and memtest86 to make sure.

welllll...the sticker says 4-12-4-4

Yes... everyone has to be different.

One any better than the other if i ran them in pairs?

Well 4-4-4-12 is slightly better than 4-5-4-15 but so much better that a human would ever notice. Mixing RAM like that will make stability more difficult to achieve but not impossible I would bet. I am using RAM that is supposed to run at 4-4-4-12-2t but because I run four DIMMs instead of the rated two I have to set the timings looser to 5-5-5-15-2t but because I could lower the voltage and get them more stable I run them at 5-5-5-18-2t and every thing is much better off I think.
This is one of those areas where YMMV is always true because not many RAM manufacturers test their RAM as four DIMM sets unless they sell them in sets of four (or six or what have you).

Seems to me the best option would be to buy a pair of 2 GIG sticks.

Yes.

If your MB can support it yes. Its always easier to get two dimms stable than it is four.
