Wow, I just read this report that found that 32% of the Russian people think the Sun rotates around the Earth, and that 29% think the first humans lived with Dinosaurs. Just shows how low the general education level is in Russia.

How far the Super Powers have fallen....

Whats to blame, lack of enemy?

The study also found that women were more likely than men to believe the scientific fallacies.
Odd.

Hmm...I'm not surprised.....90% of reporters are idiots.

"four-stage fire in central Moscow makes way for glorious new tractor factory!"
:rofl

This is the same Russia that had their soldiers stealing light bulbs to bring home in WWII but didn't realize they needed electricity.
Russia is a big country, parts are very poor and isolated. It is similar to the situation on/near Appalachia, only the expanse in Russia makes tying that country together (with infrastructure/education) very difficult.
-
Evidently, you just confused Russia with Soviet Union.
Most Americans think of the two as one in the same, and probably couldn't show you where Russia was on a map.
Of course most young Americans can't find Iraq, or Louisiana for that matter on a map.

Like the looters stealing flat screen TVs during the Katrina aftermath. Where did they think they were gonna plug em in? :huh

I wonder how many americans think that the US is the center of the world?
I don't and never will. It's why I don't have problems when I travel to other countries. :aok

33 percent [of Americans aged 18 to 24] could not point out Louisiana on a U.S. map
that cant be right can it?
-
I do recall seeing a result of a geography test when I was in high school that a little over 30% of American high school students had misidentified the USSR as the USA in the test. Reason given: it was the biggest country, so most likely to be the United States in their mind.

"four-stage fire in central Moscow makes way for glorious new tractor factory!"
:rofl
"A four-alarm fire in Downtown Moscow clears way for a glorious new tractor factory, And, on the lighter side of the news, Hundreds of Capitalists are Soon to Perish in Shuttle Disaster."
I swore before instead of tractor factory, he said "glorious new leader"

I wonder how many americans think that the US is the center of the world?
Its not?

Most Americans seem to believe that they are the center of the universe.

that cant be right can it?
Not only that, the map in question had written descriptions, too :neener:

Keep in mind that, ~40 years after the fall of the backward aristocratic Russian Empire, the USSR beat us into manned space flight.... at the same time, it's amazing to think that education standards have fallen so far in 20 years.

Might be a little old. In the first week or two of the Katrina episode they did that survey I believe.

Technically speaking any point in the universe can be the center of the universe.
Perhaps if it's infinite or looped around itself.
But no matter what, any point cannot be the center of our solar system. That is most definitely the Sun.

This thread is sliding off the edge of the galaxy.

Since 69% of statistics are made up I wonder if those are.

Where'd you get that statistic? From statistics? So if the stat say that 69% of stats are made up, that means that ... :huh... :bhead...

Since 69% of statistics are made up I wonder if those are.
Since 66% of statistics are made up on-the-spot, the odds are in its favor.

Most Americans seem to believe that they are the center of the universe.
Better statistical sample for such a question: how many countries wouldn't have its "average joe" population identically "stoopid" if their country was in the USA's position?
No country has a monopoly on illiteracy, chauvinism, and general stoopidity.
-
If the universe is infinite then one center is as good as another.

Nonsense.
We, in the Colonies, have a sure-fire way of teaching geography:
Eureka = (Invasion + Night Vision Lens)^CNN

I would seriously question that source and would suggest it is a photoshoped picture. It originated from a blog which appears to be very opposed to certain view points, particularly Fox News.
I'm neutral in the matter, I'm just saying don't believe everything you see or read.
edit: I was wrong, he is absolutely venomous towards any view points he opposes. There is no way that is a credible source.

You gotta be kidding me....

I am almost positive with the number of graphics that are created hourly for any news channel that a great percentage of them have terrible errors. Just as I am sure that your choice to single out Fox has an agenda behind it.
-
The Huffington Post is hardly an independent source either, it is akin to a conservative quoting Glenn Beck.

I didn't get the exact time it aired from the Huffungton post. The exact time it aired, or shall I say 'errored' is all over the web from numerous sources, some credible, some not.

My agenda is no more different than their own in that right. Anyone else remember Fox pre election '99 and Fox on the day after +? I'm still surprised conservatives give them as much respect and positive backing as they do if they were watching the same channel during the Clinton administration.

I think most would agree New York City is the center of the world. If you have ever talked to foreigners in their country a lot of the will ask "are you from New York City" they think it is this great mystical city it really kind of sucks in my opinion probably in the average New York state tax payer's opinion who doesn't live in the City as well.

last millennium... whether you like it or not, Beijing is the new center of the world.... most American's just haven't figured it out yet.
