Guardian = Person having legal custody.

example - Mother and Father are in prison. Children are put into the custody of another relative, usually Aunt, Uncle or Grandparents.

Because every child deserves to be smack once a day like my grandfather received.

Considering the man died his fathers white dog green.And in the very early 1900's. A time when dye didnt exactly wash out with soap and water. Its not a hard stretch to imagine that he may have done a few things that h deserved a smack for that nobody found out about
