Title: Idea for a Scenario
Post by: rayace1 on February 14, 2011, 10:22:34 PM
When the B-29 Superfortress gets uploaded into the game, I propose a B.O.J. or Battle Over Japan.

B29's will not get formations during the scenario, either that or no escort :)

Not to mention the favorite tactic of the Japanese was mid-air collision...can't wait to B-29 NOE attacks in MA...

The tactic of using aircraft to ram American B-29s was first recorded on the 20 August raid on the steel factories at Yawata. Sergeant Shigeo Nobe of the 4th Sentai intentionally flew his Kawasaki Ki-45 into a B-29; debris from the explosion following this attack severely damaged another B-29, which also went down. Lost were Colonel Robert Clinksale's B-29-10-BW 42-6334 Gertrude C and Captain Ornell Stauffer's B-29-15-BW 42-6368 Calamity Sue, both from the 486th BG.[32] Several B-29s were destroyed in this way over the ensuing months. Although the term "Kamikaze" is often used to refer to the pilots conducting these attacks, the word was not used by the Japanese military.[33][34]

i'd go with no formations, minimal escorts? get the 91st in here, they can run a real nice tight formation with out a formation per pilot :)

Yeah that mimimal escort bit makes a lot of sense :)

Tell that to the 15th, 21st, 318th and 506th FG pilots who flew those VLR missions covering the 29s to Japan that.  In my opinion the toughest, longest and most demanding mission flown by any fighter drivers during WW2.

Favorite tactic might be a bit of a stretch.  Desperate tactic maybe.

I would argue that the bomber missions flown from Rabul to Port Moresby by the Japanese in 42-43 were pretty tough going as well. The Tainan Kokutai/251 Koku had some pretty long missions during that time.
