It's availible in the test bed form now, but sorry XP users, Microsoft has left you in the dust. It seems to have taken a lesson from Google Chrome, and has streamlined its loadout. However, those of you who liked to bookmark your pages and be a click away, that capability is gone.
What are your opinions on the new browser?

What are my opinions of Explorer 9?
Same is for Windows 7 and Vista. I believe they have a tremendous Gravity Well surrounding them. And I am not promoting Mac or any other machine. So lets dont go there please.
I believe they were made for (for the most part) mental midgets that can not formulate a clue of what to do when encountering a stick in the road. Of course this is just evedence of what our civilization is being transformed into. Look around you..... how many people you actually see have a clue what they are doing? How many people have clue how thier Ipad, Ipod, Notebook, Blackberry, Blueberry, gizmo, widget, etc... actually works? How many actually know how a hard drive functions? How many people know how the picture gets to your face from your TV?
Just my thoughts though and dont really mean anything,

I don't know why people even still use I.E when you can use Firefox which is head & shoulders above I.E in every way, plus it's a hell of a lot more customizable. The first time I used Firefox I never looked back, and if your an I.E user and have never tried out Firefox do yourself a favor and give it a try, you won't regret it, especially if your not that great of a speller because Firefox has a built-in spellchecker.

never used IE so i guess i wont miss it, firefox all the way

Since my son decided to eat what I was planning on having for dinner tonight Im feeling a bit cranky.
So rather then type what I was gonna type. We'll just go with what you said instead.
The only time I ever use explorer when I have to actually get something from microsoft.

IE is worthless. Firefox far better.

Based on passive observation, I'm starting to hate anything and everything that has to do with Mystuffsucks and the intardweeb at the same time.
I got hooked on Firefox. Never looked at anything else.

Some websites need you to have Microsoft Silverlight installed. Silverlight is an add on for Internet Explorer.
-
Just say no to IE. :aok
-
Because IE is now faster than Firefox. Well... under certain conditions. Mozilla has tested Firefox and come out with different conclusions of course.
The thing I dont like about IE9 is the constant crying about startup speeds being faster if you disable addons.
Anyway... unlike you other guys I use the different browsers instead of being loyal to only one. Men are pigs... remember? No loyalty to brands. Not because any one of the does anything better than the others but because I like to have my start page be several tabs worth of sites I visit. That chokes every browser known if you have enough tabs open.

Like DREDIOCK said you can get it as an add-on to Firefox as well, Firefox can do just about anything I.E can do, and usually do it better.

Is this a useful tool to used?

Oak, it's used for streaming video from Netflix and such.

Silverlight is MS alternative for flash. IE9 is actually marginally better than IE8. It now conforms to 25% of web standards instead of the old 10%.
IE is any web developers worst nightmare because it forces them to build workarounds to every little thing IE does differently than the standard browsers.

I just went through the list from "AddonFox - Best Firefox Addons!" from the link DREDIOCK posted & went through the list of add-on's & found a few cool ones I didn't know about and added, like "SmoothWheel" which scrolls the webpage smoothly when scrolling the mouse wheel, I just added it and I like it a lot better then the jumping it normally does when you scroll. Plus I added "KwiClick" which when you highlight text on a page you can have Google search results for the highlighted text come up in a small window. There's a lot of other interesting add-ons listed there you should check out.

I'd also suggest other then the standard "Adblock and Noscript"
"Quick translate" - Highlight the text and it translates it to English
"Interclue" -Too much to write about. Just click here https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/interclue/

i would have to give that one a try.

I simply loathe tab based browsers. The most frustrating, idiotic user interface I have ever seen. My Wife has one of those things on her computer (which I constantly have to fix for malware/spyware/viruses/worms...) and I now refuse to touch her computer.
Tried using it and wanted to toss the thing into the garbage after about 15 minutes of trying to figure out how to get Google to come up. Seems it only took 45 mouse clicks, while standing on your head, in the middle of the rain, being bombarded with bird poop. That was a load of fun.
You can keep the lot of them.

If you weren't trying to have a million tabs open at once, then I personally don't see what you're talking about. For me it's just one click to open a tab and then I enter the web site in the address bar, press enter, I'm there. Search engine (any you choose) in the top right to be typed in at any time. I find it nice to be able to keep my web browsing contained in one window to keep the clutter on the taskbar down.
Perhaps the one you tried was really bugged?

Opening and closing tabs are extra clicks I do not want to deal with. Having all those damn tabs open all the time are a pain in the butt. Exiting a browser that insists on asking if you want to really close down all those tabs is stupid.
It is frustrating to discuss as well.
The old IE6 user interface was simple and easy.
-
You know, it's actually twice as many extra clicks double-clicking the icon on the desktop to open a new browser window. ;)
Seems like you just have your own style. I know styles can be important when you have a passion for your work. :)

What browser do you use then?
On Firefox I've never had it ask me anything after hitting the "X" to close out the browser, no matter how many tabs I've had open, I've also never found my browser frustrating in the slightest.

You know that you can change your desktop to where you can open things with a single click, I find it a lot better then having it set to double clicks.
-
Yeah, and I know you can stick the icon to the start menu too so you don't even have to minimize what you have up. However, I still prefer the single click on that plus button to open a new tab.
Basically comes down to preference in this case. I prefer to keep my intardweeb mess contained in one window.
P.S. Firefox lets you disable the "Are you sure you want to close all 5 tabs?" from showing up in the future right on the message.

It is very, very rare for me to need to see more than one site at a time.

You're a lot more organized than I am then. :lol

Browser challenged Skuzzy? ;) :P :)
You do realize that you can setup or use firefox so that you have the choice to open a page in a new tab,or window. Or simply navigate there in the same window dont you?
You also can set it so that it doesnt ask you if you want to close all those tabs. It just closes them
I'll open links to a page in a new tab simply because I often want to simply be able to flip back and forth between pages and not have to deal with the page reloading every time I go to view it because its already loaded.
Sometimes when Im working on something I'll want all those tabs around for various information they provide at a single click that I dont have to look for all over again, but they take up all the space at the top. So I simply open up a new window which appears in the task bar and flip back and forth between there too.
Sometimes I'll have 2,3 or more windows available to me all containing tabs with pages with immediate info I can easily access.
I'd say its not the browser thats the problem. But the way its being used by the user :neener:

I will say again. I detest the user interface for all the modern browsers. They are the most obtuse designs I have ever seen. When you have to say, "you do realize.....", all I see is you saying, "well if you dig around enough you can find what you need, but it is not readily apparent and may not exist at all."
Learning to use any software takes some time, but when you have to read a book to use a browser, that is simply sad. It is not a complicated task.
Oh, I am not the only one who feels this way. It is bad enough there is a coalition of programmers working to build friendlier interfaces for some of these browsers. The IE6 user interface is being used as the base model. It seems most people are happy with that interface itself.
EDIT:
Showing me how to configure a browser when it is my Wife that uses it, is not going to help. I am not going to mess with my Wifes computer configuration.

Silverlight works with firefox perfectly. I should know, Netflix requires silverlight and I watch my movies on firefox.
