It is too bad that Germany never got the HO-229 off the ground into action.  It would have been interesting to see how well it would handle the allies bombers and fighters.

It would never work here. Any kills with it would get a complaint from the dead pile it that he was HO'd  :D

Do you have, or know where HTC could get, performance data for it?  Roll rate?  Effects of different speeds?  Climb?  Heck, even level speed?

Didn't think so.

Remember, guestimate speeds scribbled on a piece of paper don't count.

that discovery channel show that talked about this prooved it was "stealthy" and would have given the brits 7 minutes of warning. plus HTC would have to find a way of counteracting the UNSTABLE flying. i believe the german test pilot who flew the first one in a mock dogfight against a ME-262, was killed when an engine fire erupted. not only were engine trouble common in this, it most likely would have been a widow-maker. sure i would fly this "IF" HTC added this, but not in the MAs or in combat for that matter. i would be struggling with unstable aerodynamics, and well it wouldnt be an easy one to land. B2 pilots have to stuggle to keep it steady on their final. hold it, hold it, hold it. then kiss the ground and, your home safe.

or what about this, because being able to only shoot one direction in my La-5 gets boring

LOL! NatGeo as a source? Most of their junk is crap. Or is most of their crap junk? They have a love affair with linking ANYTHING the nazis did with the words "wonderful" "superior" "amazing" -- Just you watch they'll come out with a documentary soon on how Nazi Germany came up with a lunar rover that Nasa copied in teh 60s...

 :noid

It was a never-was, it never would have lived up to the hype either. That's not even the sad part.

The sad part is there are about a million other just-as-bat-arse-crazy ideas they tried at the end of the war. THIS ONE seems to get the most press and the most false hype. There are even crazier ideas just as bad to suggest for inclusion into AH.

alot of people say that they werent thinking stealthy, but from what that show has said. it very well could have been the very very first stealth aircraft.
