So who's going SuperBuff hunting when they come out, and what ideas do you have for knocking one down?
-
I can't wait to kill my 1st 100 B-29's :devil
As everybody who can afford it will try out the new bird during the first 1-2 weeks, this will be the best time for superhunting.
I will patrol the frontline at very high altitude in a Ta 152, 47M/N or a 262, having a close look at the high altitude fields in the rear area of my enemies. :airplane:
my K/time will be horrible that tour :lol
-
Armed and Ready. Sitting on a 20K mountain so I don't have to climb far. :aok

It's going to be bloody hard work.
I chased a set of Lancs up to 40k in the MA the other night in a 109K4. The guy in the Lancs was brilliant at high alt defense, he was maneuvering hard and I just could not get close enough to him to make a solid guns pass at a high enough speed to really throw his aim off. I got lucky on my first pass and killed a drone but after the second pass (solid hits, but no serious damage) I just couldn't touch him without putting myself in the firing line at an incredibly low closing speed.
I ran out of cannon after getting peppered by .303 repeatedly (I don't know how I didn't lose a radiator or pilot, he was a bloody good shot), so I had to break off and RTB.
That was a chase that covered an entire half of the map and I really struggled to make a solid fight of it.
I'll have to watch the film to have a look at the exact speeds involved and how hard the Lancs were moving around (it's hard to tell without much of a horizon).
I'll take a look and post some screenies later.

I'm just scared of 9990000 and unclkurt owning me from 1k out :uhoh :( it is already hard enough to kill buffs, I lost 3 262's to buffs. My buff killer is going to be p47n, get perks and can take a punch

Tried true & best method always nose on you only need two bullets on the pilot to kill any aircraft in AHII.
Look at the methods the Japanese used on them they may have been suicidal but they were not stupid when they learned how to attack the B-29. Notice the number of attacks that are nose on from mission #17 compared to #24.

Lol...It would be a bad idea for a b29 to get close to a HQ lol, but there will be poeple who will

They probably won't add the fire control system. Some of our fighters in-game have a lead computing gunsight in real life, but we still don't, and probably won't ever, have the sights in-game.

Well we do kinda have the fire control system already. All guns track with the one gun that you are in. The only difference is ours track from a gun and the B29 was from a command spot for the gunner. Right?

Don't worry, just before you pull the trigger they will somehow warp it three different directions

Not really, no. The B-29's guns converged at a designated range, set on the fly by the gunner, and showed the lead that was needed to hit the target based on data entered by the gunner about the target's range and speed.
The guns on the bombers in AH do not converge at all and do not show needed lead.

"After being briefed on the B-29 in the spring of 1944 Tibbets was assigned as a B-29 crew instructor at Grand Island Nebraska but was soon reassigned to advanced B-29 operational testing at Alamogordo New Mexico. It was during this phase of operational tests that Tibbets discovered during a training exercise with a P-47 fighter - almost accidentally - that if a B-29 was stipped of its turrets and armor it could outmaneuver the smaller high-performance aircraft at 30000 feet."

A rather sobering vid of B-29 wreckage in Japan. Bonus, contrails.

So, De-Havilland was right... and almost 4 years before that :)

its true, 30k up not many people will go up to stop me for one, and those that go up always stay behind the bomber. now imagine 40k up going 300 MPH. the only thing to deal with you is a ME-262, a ME-163, and a TA-152.

If you think you're gonna be able to fly at 40,000ft in a B-29, you need to do some research on the B-29.

No, it's maximum service ceiling wasn't 40,000ft nor was it 35,000ft.

well then 30k, idc really. the problem i see for someone trying to take down the B-29 is trying to keep up with it after it drops its bombs, you guys say it will hit 350MPH, well if you wanna take one down get to alt before it gets to its target, and for me strats arnt much of a target. ill hit towns with it. ill have already dropped my bombs and been turned around by the time someone comes up to get me. leveled out, and in the gunners position all the way out of enemy territory, watching 360 degrees.
-
33k to be more precise.
-
F4U-1C has more than enough mike-mike to satisfy even Marilyn Chambers
and can make mincemeat of them up there.
-
the thing i noticed the most about the B-29 is that if your shooting from the top position the forward top gun wont shoot to the rear. same for the left and right position.
-
Dropped one with a spitsteen and used maybe 40 rounds of hispano to do it at most.
-
Someone needs to drop a screenie of one going down...
