Well, I had ordered a system custom built with an i5 2500K with the intentions of O/C ing it, and then the Sandy Bridge recall happened and the company I was dealing with wanted the system back ASAP as they were doing warranty replacements on all the affected parts for this nightmare (my MB I believe was the culprit). I figured I'd shoot TD some pm's regarding it, and he gave me very sound advice on the i5 and I decided to go another direction, so here is what I did:
Windows 7 64 bit
Intel i7 960 3.2 ghz
12 megs Gaming Trip Ch ram
Asus Sabertooth MB
OCZ vertex 2 120gb SSD
1tb WD sata3 data drive
6850 vid card x2 (got one really cheap, so bought another, wtf not)
Corsair 1000wt PSU
Asus 247H 23.6" LED 2ms Monitor
I realize this isn't the system to beat the band (cheapest of the bunch MB, and lower end vid cards at 175$), but compared to what I had, even what I upgraded too pre-recall, it's amazing to me how fast everything is in comparison to a system three and a half years old (AMD 6000+ w/ 240GT vid).
I'm most impressed by the monitor, for 190$ it's hard to find one that's much better, and again, compared to what I was using, is incredible.
Well, Tildeath turned out to be absolutely correct about the i5, even told me I was better off getting a system here in Canada then ordering through himself (this is a real low end job to him anyway I suppose). Just wanted to shoot a company-wide coms message of thanks to him for his advice and help.
