Title: Guitar guys
Post by: Rondar on February 22, 2011, 12:47:01 AM
I've got a Yamaha BB 350 bass guitar I have had for a while but just not going to get around to playing it.  I had played a little in High School in band, but that was many moons ago.  I picked up this yamaha a few years ago but just never developed an interest.  If  I remember correctly, the guy I bought it from sent it ups or whatever in just the padded case it came in.  If I were to sell it, is it safe to ship it in just the padded case or should I go find some kind of box to put it in?  And if I need a box.... whoooooo.... where I live ... whooooo again.... I will have to eat a lot of pop tarts to make a box :lol

I figured there were enough guitar guys in here to pose this question.  Thanks.

Any local guitar shops?  They probably have boxes that they regularly throw away or recycle, I bet they'd be willing to give you a box.

what he said, you can also buy special boxes for shipping them and you can probably insure it.

Jayhawk, I dont live anywhere near a guitar store.  In fact I have to drive 65 miles to a mcdonalds or walmart.

:noid  I just know I'n gonna get sick of poptarts before I get enough boxes...

You mention the case is padded, but not if it's a hard or soft shell.  If it's a hard case it's good to go, ship it.  If it's a soft case, then you'll need more than PopTart boxes to protect it.  Soft cases are good for cosmetic protection only.  They offer little if any protection for the structure.  One good drop could break a tuning beg, or God forbid, the neck.  Double layer corrugated minimum.  Also, loosen the strings before storing and/or shipping.  Less chance of warping the neck.

Or you could just ship it as you received it and cross your fingers.

Padded case? Like a soft case for carrying the bass like this?

I wouldn't want to ship it like that, and it probably will get damaged in transit anyway.  But the soft case (what they call a "gig bag")  is worth another $30 or so.

On the other hand you're going to need a box for shipping.  Be around $30:

Yes, its just a soft shell padded fabric case.  Thanks for that link, it gives me something to look at and consider.
