Title: New Patch Log-In Glitch
Post by: ROX on February 22, 2011, 04:10:34 PM
Downloaded the new patch today, went through it, installed, no problem.

Chorus:  Go to open the program and fly and I get to the arena clipboard and for a split nano-second the "allow aceshigh.exe" screen comes up, disapears almost immediatley...screen freezes up, mouse pointer disapears, program freezes, "an error has occured", I send the message...who knows where that goes.  Reboot.

I went in and made sure that the game had access in the firewall.  It does, great...Chorus.

I went in and disabled my firewall completely for an hour, clicked apply....Chorus.

I went in and disabled my firewall completely....Chorus.

Any idea why the AH pop-up screen to allow access through the firewall box comes up for almost as long as it takes to blink?

Thanks!

ROX

Oh--PS:  I cannot get into any arena in the game.

Oh--PS:  I cannot get into any arena in the game.

I get the "scehigh.exe" error message too.  I uninstall it and reinstall the game.  Now i have this issue:

I guess you and I can play poker until we get an answer since we cant fly.

You call it...

Texas Hold-Em or 5 Card Stud....

It may take a long time before we get an answer.

Don't bet the kids college money.  I call stop-loss at max of $200 a day until we can play again.

If we go broke before that let's play Go-Fish.

Rox, is it just on connect up that it freezes?  Can you play in offline mode ok?  Any other security software installed on your system?

Oakranger, to reinstall you need to get the base download and run that.  In the screenshot below, it looks you're running a patch and not the base download.  The patcher can't patch what isn't there.

It's just like normal until I choose an arena (any arena besides offline...which I normally never go to--it does allow entry to offline...but...).  When I try and exit out of offline it's freeze-up--lose mouse pointer and "an error has occured with aceshigh.exe"....ad infinitum.

I have nothing other than Mc Afee...whic I have disabled the firewall for completely.

Each time I try to get into an online arena the AH "Hey would you like to allow HTC access through the firewall" box pops up for less than it takes to blink an eye then is gone.  A meth addict couldn't click the box fast enough before it disappears.  Then...the blue "error has ocurred" box of death appears and it's dog chasing tail.

It seems to be some sort of glitch with the HTC "would you let Aces High allow access through the firewall" box glitch.  I bet if I was able to be allowed enough time to click that before it blasted off into space at warp speed it would fix the problem.

Opening up my firewall to the planet does not fix it.

PS--THANK YOU for responding on your own time...do not think it went unnoticed or unappreciated!  :aok

Just as something to try for troubleshooting, fire up the game and before clicking the online button, grab the window and move it out the center of your screen where you were seeing that dialog flash.  Then click the online button and see if the dialog is there now or if it still just flashed briefly.

Tried, as instructed, 4-5 times and each time it did not nono-secondly flash the "allow Aces High Access To Firewall" box...it just froze up and went to "program is not responding send Microsoft a message" box.

The last time it froze up the mouse pointer disapeared completely--even for the task bar---and I had to totally re-boot (again).

It will not allow me to enter any online arena.

The "allow Aces High Access to Firewall" box appeared for the first, say, 20 times I tried to get in and the last 4-5 is now absent.

Yep, that is what i did.  Ok, so i download the right patch and now getting the "acehigh.exe" file error again.

Getting the same message when i go on the offline arena too.

PS-- When I first click on the AH desktop icon it does acknowledge that is version 2.23 as if it recognises the new patch.

It's when I click on any online arena that it goes immediately into the freeze-up mode.

I hope I am being decriptive enough.  I know that any tech that knows software needs as descriptive as possible a depiction of what exactly is happening.

PSS--If I go to say SEII and don't already have the map it downloads the map, and then goes back to freeze-up mode.

I'm having the same problem. As soon as I pick an arena I get a windows message that AcesHigh.exe has stopped working and it crashes. The game will run offline so I took up a B-29. Everything was fine until I dropped eggs and the game did the same crash again.

Quick bit of DxDiag if that helps:

How do you get your DxDiag

Computer

"RUN"

Then type in " DxDiag"  without the quotation marks.

Some versions of Windows do not support DOS type commands.

Then again, I am not a computor expert so my advise is worth $.02 cents.

Trying to help, it is my being...not hurt or make fun of.   :aok

Iffin' I was an expert I would have my own aircraft carrier by now.   :)

Seriously--hope Pyro can fix this.   I cannot even fly now and I am going through withdrawls.

Having many problems with this patch. Going offline and get to the hanger....as soon as I select anything...it freezes and makes a god-awful loop sound. At first I thought it was the B29...but it's anything I select. :cry

Oh WEEE!  Startup-glitchs...gotta love them...

Can't run in Win 98 compatibility mode anymore.  Game freezes right after I click to enter the arena.  Microsoft Error Report appears...something about aclayer.dll.  Funny, I have Error Reporting turned off.  LOVE that music stutter, so Techno.

But it runs in Win 2000 compatibility...for a while...then night sky with stars and NOTHING.  Lost 293 bomber perks...oh well, at least got to fly the B-29...for a while.

Only took me an hour and a half to get the game to work at all after I downloaded the update.  FORGET about playing without compatibility mode for my Windows XP.  Just get too dizzy watching the clipboard go round and round and round.

Maybe God's telling me that I have more productive things to do than play AHII

Oh...P.S.  The startup music...a waste of disk space.  Already excited to play when I startup, don't need the music to stimulate me.

Sorry guys, I have nothing new to offer at this time.  We've been working with a number of players in troubleshooting the issue.  We don't yet know why some people are having this problem and the fact that we can't duplicate it on any of our systems here makes it more of a pain to troubleshoot.  Thanks for your patience, it is a high priority item for us and we're doing what we can to find the problem ASAP.

OK....this is weird. :headscratch:

Apparently my problem is fixed. I ended up totally deleting the Ace High files which included the new version. I then re-downloaded the game. I made sure that the aceshigh.exe was in the proper mode. I guess before it was in Windows ME mode. Not sure how that happened. I did in fact had to move that *.dll file back to the main folder also. Then I started the game up and no issues that I can see. No frozen screens, no sound loops and will also exit OK (before, only alt-f4 worked). I think maybe for some...the older files need to be "poofed" then get the download version. Not sure. Anyhoo...it's working OK online as well as offline. :aok

I have a possible temporary workaround to try if you're freezing up when you try to log in.

1-  Go into your HiTech Creations\Aces High folder and find the aceshigh.exe file.

2-  Right click on the aceshigh file and select copy.

3-  Paste the copied file back into your Aces High folder.  You will now have another file called "Copy of aceshigh.exe"

4-  Run the copy and see if you can log in.

Don't remove or rename the original aceshigh.exe from your Aces High folder.   Let me know if this works or doesn't work for you.

Comet, I'm not following what you did there.  Can you elaborate on this?

I read from another thread today to check to see if the mss32.dll was in the main folder. I copied from the redist folder. The date stamp on the mss32.dll file was much, much older. I was instructed to copy and paste the newer version of the mss32.dll file to the main folder from the redist folder. Now...I did this after the new re-download but before I started up the game. So, I am not sure that was one of the problems. I do know that I didn't have it in ME mode before, how it switched to that I'm not sure. I turned off the compatibility option in the acehigh.exe file. All I know is that all of the problems I was having before are now gone after the new download. :headscratch:

Did as you instructed Pyro.

My results:

Click on the "Copy" and a window does pop, but is all white and freezes immediately.

CTL+ALT+DELETE shows Aces High "Not Responding".

I also experimented with changing the Windows compatibility to anything other than Windows 95 and each of those would freeze up even before I had a chance to click on an online arena.

I just tried a regular program open and the little "wooden" pop-up that asks do I want to give the new version access through my firewall and it lasted for maybe .3 seconds before it disapeared and the arena choices came on.  Call me crazy, but it seems whatever was done on the latest version did something to short-sheet the amount of time one had (presumably until they made the yes or no choice) to click a choice.  Now, for some reason, and on some peoples PC's--not everyone's, it only shows it for a fraction of a second--disapears--and then the online arena choice clipboard is there.  That might be a chunk of the problem right there.

Turning off my firewall completely did not solve the issue.

Again--I am disabled and have days open.  You guys have my email and I can send you my cell.  I'd be happy to help if it can solve the issue for those who have it.

No luck so far, I uninstalled the program, reinstalled it. still freezes up and gives microsoft error message when trying to log into online arena. The mss32.dll file is the same size and date in the main folder and the redist folder.. so comet's magic bullet dosen't work for me. Guess I'll give AH another call tomorrow. I don't know where to check to see what windows mode it is in that Comet talks about... (I have xp operating system) :furious

I was reading the release notes, and it says "Fixed an issue that occasionally caused a white screen crash on startup on certain machines." Wish they would un-fix it. Maybe then the game would work for me.

That sounds like a good place to investigate. 2 days and I still can't get the game to run. Now I'm starting to get withdrawals. Who knows, maybe after a few more days I can kick this habit cold turkey and see what life is like outside my computer room.  :bolt:

Did as you instructed Pyro.

My results:

Click on the "Copy" and a window does pop, but is all white and freezes immediately.

CTL+ALT+DELETE shows Aces High "Not Responding".

This is exactly what I'm getting all the time now.  The game doesn't even load.  Worked just fine up until the new update.

I have checked the redist folder, as per Pyro.  My miles sound system dll folders are both 2.24.2011 (today) when the other files are all 1.26.2011.  This is after a complete uninstall and fresh download.

UPDATE:  We're set on testers now and have a pretty clear idea on what the problem is.

Yaaay, that works.  Thanks
