Title: 152 finally found a niche.
Post by: Tupac on February 23, 2011, 01:16:50 AM
The 152 sorties are going to increase 4x the next month.

It really is one of the few planes in the game capable of attacking B29s at altitude.

On the allied side its the mighty spit 14 has the legs on the 152 to 25k if not the guns.

It will get up there allot quicker to but sadly it is still perked heavily imho  :frown:

If its rad is as susceptible as I remember, I'm not sure the 152 will really like this niche.  Not if the 29 is as fast as it seems to be, and has about twice as many guns as the B-17s do.

From memory of what a B-17 is like, and what it'd be like if it got this much extra speed and guns, you'd have to be very well practiced and disciplined to successfully take down B-29 formations.  Success = taking no critical damage. IE at the very least taking critical damage only after the formation is down.

So it's finally a target that's actually like what the 152 was meant for, but IMHO a sweet & sour deal.  One natural and positive solution I see is that this encourages better teamwork.  Two or three 152s should be enough for successfully dealing with B-29s.  That's a fair setup for the 152 - it'd still be a good challenge.

Spit14 doesnt have the legs to catch it.....and engage for very long like your going to need to if the B29 is as good as the video shows it as being.

Ive brought a few down at 15k with a p51.

The 14 should have 90mph over the 29 at 25k I think it can get to 20k in around 5 minutes and that is what an interceptor needs to be able to do.  I think you would need to take of in front of it though.

A 20mm round will easily set alight the B29, the 152 is great at taking them down.

Isn't that a bug?    You might wanna try the chog, if the 152's not especially your thing (handling quirks and worse ballistics).  It's more rugged and has better guns.

I actually enjoy the 152, i don't think it's a bug either. IRL they caught fire fairly easily

Hmm..  If it's not a bug it'd definitely be a totally different story.

I hate attacking bombers in the 152 because of the glass radiator it has. You will climb up to 30k  get one pinged by the 29s and take a long glide home.

Well yes if you are fighting normal every day ma fighters there is no need for that much alt. In reality though it was made for the high alt stuff.

Until they realize that the Ta 152 has a glass radiator that somehow attracts lead as if by a magnetic field.
I think a .50 caliber round within 20 yards will break the nose of the Jumo engined 190's. This alone makes them horrible interceptors. I've never understood people using them for this purpose.

Let me see.  It is used that way because that is the whole purpose it was designed for.  High Altitude Interceptor.  Phhhhzzzzttt. :bhead

In the game, it's not very good (well, extremely frustrating at least) to use in that application.

I would love to see a spit 14 chase after b-29.  Aren't spits one of the softest plane sets in the game anyway?  Spit14 is a great interceptor but i cant see it owning a set of 29's.  Yes there will be some guys who can do it but with the 14 your gonna run out of fuel or lose a wing trying to shoot down 3 of them.  CHog would be a great choice if you have the patience to get up to alt I suppose.

The 14 will get up to the high altitudes and catch the 29 without problem.  It's the trying to shoot the B-29 without taking a single good ping from it's defensive guns that is the problem.  Almost the whole Spitfire line are easily damaged (especially engine) by even the smallest calibre bullets.
