Gas is $3.44 up to $3.65 in some places around me.

I had every intention of buying a bigger motorcycle this year, now I think I will keep what I have to give these oil companies less money.

My mother raised Alaskan Malamutes when I was a kid.  I remember many winters when we used to take the sled to do daily chores/errands/go to school, etc.  She still has the sled but sadly, until the past 2 years, there hasn't been much snow around here...

I f your not into sport bikes or Harleys and dont ride like a madman its not that different. I have a 650 V-twin that is more economical than my 450 chook chaser and my GSXR only uses slightly more than the 650.

I'm still trying to figure out why diesel is higher than gasoline here and other places, but cheaper than gasoline (like it should be) in others

Sure ya could von...

SIMPLE economics!

Come here to my location.  Purchase a thouroughbred that either won the Arkansas Derby, The Racing Festival of the South, or placed in the top 5 in the Kentucky Derby, Preakness, or the Belmont.  Rent stable and pasture space out in Berks County somewhere and put him out for stud.

At about $1.5M to $5M per "date", (depending on the horse's rating at retirement) gas could go to $20 bucks a gallon and you wouldn't care.

SIMPLE economics!

My sister has a place in Berks county.

She has horses, too.

I'd rather get a permit to make my own Ethanol and convert my vehicles...

Hope that isn't too political a statement...

+1
Diesel here is 20 cents more a gallon than regular gasoline, which is just wrong. Then Babalonian posts a pic, and diesel is 30 cents cheaper than regular, and he lives in the same friggen state I do. WTF is up with that.

Who wants to bet the oil companies post a record profit for this quarter. :bhead

And for those that don't know, there isn't anything cheap about owning a horse.

Only 1 RV trip for us this year.  :ahand (Well, if don't count the lacrosse tournament week-ends around the PNW)

Interesting note: We booked our Hawaii trip tickets right after the 1st of the new year. $561 R/T for a trip we've planned later this summer. (We bought 2 tickets, and used air miles on the other two tickets).  Just checked Alaska Airlines and now ffor the same flight, same day, those same tickets go for $733 a piece!  :O

Not to mention really high taxes too.

True, as well as a bunch of other incentives and infrastructure in place to rely on other means of transportation rather than individual automobiles.

Which just dawned on me, I wonder if those states that just gave up their federal funding for a high-speed rail system in the last month or two are going to suddenly change their mind...

We used to have high taxes up through the 1970's... now china is helping finance us...

From what I understand fuel is the least of your expenses associated with owning an automobile in Japan.

$6/gallon?

@ 19 gallon tank on my Wrangler that's $114

That can buy >200 lbs of grain!

That's about 100 gallons of beer  :x

<back to the shop to figure out how to run my car off of beer>

lol ok    1.8 per liter is 7.5 per gallon so you guys in america are still on relative cheap gas. Your cars eat more though. Mine only eats 4 gallons in 100 miles. And its for sale

Yes but the really big problem is we dont have alternative means to get around.  It completely will change how America works on every level.  Its sad but most people are living at max budget right now.  They dont have the extra money to throw at gas for thier car.  They also will not have the extra money to pay for the more expensive goods that they will have to buy.  Got netflix? Watch "Peak Oil".  I dont think its going to be as extreme as the movie makes it out to be but there are alot of facts about oil and its enevitable rising cost that are worth noting and planning for.
