Title: Starting film school
Post by: stealth on February 28, 2011, 09:31:54 PM
When I get the chance I'm gonna go into film school because I absolutely love movies. I can listen to about 85% of most American movies for 5 seconds and tell you the name of the title and what film company made it. Most of the stuff I'm gonna be doing is real life film though. Not as much as Aceshigh, Arma2, Black Ops, Modern Warfare 2, Killzone 3 and Angry bird films anymore.

Stuff Like this ---> http://www.youtube.com/user/pwnisher (http://www.youtube.com/user/pwnisher)

Or maybe this---->http://www.youtube.com/user/pwnisher#p/u/0/k-1YtaOLQ7w (http://www.youtube.com/user/pwnisher#p/u/0/k-1YtaOLQ7w)

Or Maybe even like this---->http://www.youtube.com/user/pwnisher#p/u/1/hE-ZmwATS8E (http://www.youtube.com/user/pwnisher#p/u/1/hE-ZmwATS8E)

and yes I like Clinton Jones Films and Machinima.

The film school I'm doing for the moment is like after school, summer classes and morning school announcements kinda stuff by the way.

I would do this right now but I ran out of cardboard and friends :(   (jk on the friends) ((Maybe))

I don't want to shoot any dreams down, but FYI, my neighbors oldest child got his 4 year degree in film production at USC. He was very poor for 4 years after getting out of college, picking up odd jobs like editing film.

Today he teaches Mathematics in China.

Good Luck to you Stealth  :salute

Life is short....I know firsthand on that one....

If you passion is film then by all means pursue it!

Just be advised as Rip stated....it can be a long and arduous road.  Stick with it and if you come to the determination that it is not working out, then by all means have a "backup plan".

:)

Radio, TV, Film, all fall under the umbrella of "make contacts".

Especially while still in college it's almost a must anymore to network.  Professors have contacts, alums have contacts, and it never hurts to do everything possible to get an internship at one of the studios and be a "network potato" there as well.  You'd be SHOCKED how many gifted & talented interns get the nod for full time if they are very impressive.

Every few years at the Oscars you see some 2 guy team who won that did a claymation in the basement or simple animation and were able to open BIG doors by having an Oscar on their resume.

Since most audio and video editing is almost all done by computer now, having a nice resume sporting those skills is also a must.

GOOD LUCK at film school!  I hope you make it BIG!

Make a movie about Zoids in real life! That would be awesome! :rock Or like make a fake trailer, that would be so awesome. Could you use Chaotic Century or Guardian force

 If you have a local cable channel nearby you should go and volunteer to help out,this could lead to some contacts as Rox pointed out. I have a cousin who works for Dreamworks in their animation films,he happened to win a short film contest in school and that openned the door for him.

 While he was in school he worked at the local cable station,well worked for free,this also was the best thing he could have done as it gave him an inside look at production and he's told me that's what started him on his way.

 You might be familiar with a few of the films he's worked on,my fav is Roger Rabbit,His resposibility was the scene with Roger inside the coat of the human actor{dont recall his name}. I asked him for some stills from the film but he was unable to send me any....too bad for me!!

Well I'm gonna make films kinda like the examples and you know post them on youtube. I know the director for awhile on facebook actually. I'm gonna film in my school with a bunch of cardboard guns and then put in all the muzzle flash and shell casings. Then I got permission to go to this hotel that's being renovated and I'm gonna film a scene there to. Theres like a single light swinging in the hallway with flys around it. I'm getting an HD camera so it should look pretty sweet. I'm gonna use my airsoft guns for that one and maybe even spray paint some of my nerf guns.

Thanks for the support and I do have a back up plan and then another back up plan if directing doesn't work out. If you know any cool places I can go to during spring break and film that look pretty cool and scary but hopefully still safe. Plus 2 years of savings just got spent in 2 hours. The programs and equipment I'm using is pretty high quality. Thanks for the tips and please wish me good luck.

Pursue your dream by all means. In addition to that have a salable fall back skill to use to tide you over while the dream ferments.

not to mention the film industry has to be one of the most grueling I've seen. You practically have to throw away any personal life when you're on projects.
