today i overheard one of my friend talking on the phone on the way out of school. it really wasnt pretty and it sure isnt good. his brother who serves as a US marine has gone MIA over in Afghanistan. the last time he was seen was about 1 day ago and they havent recieved word from anyone on his whereabouts. my friend is completely loosing it. lets just hope this war ends soon and he gets back to safety.
i think that all wars are just a waste of money, time, resources and most importantly-LIFE. its powered by greed and hatred, if we cant get our act togethor in afghanistan then just get the hell out. its all pointless.
-
I actually support the war effort, but man i hope he's found and makes it home safe. :pray
-
You can declare war on a country, or on a people... or upon many people... but you cannot declare war on an idea.
That being said, I hope all of them come home soon.

Us has been making great strides in recent months in Afghanistan. However, it is still sad when people over there die. I have had a friend who had a brother die over there in 2001. Shot on the LZ as the helicopter took off he fell out and they had to go back down for him. He took it pretty hard but he agreed that it was for a "just cause". He volunteered to serve, volunteered to go to Afghanistan and he volunteered to go on his last mission to help save a team of SEALS which was successful.

Remember nazism. Some ideas are worth the war effort. (I am not saying anything regarding the current situation).

Will pray for him to come home, alive. :salute :pray

We did not declare war on Nazism. We declared war on a country.
You missed the point.

skorpion...you ever wonder if the people of ancient greek, roman, ottoman, egyptian, israeli, persian, etc...etc...etc... ever thought the same thing while tens of thousands died on the battlefields fighting the wars their kings thought were necessary? as long as human nature is what it is...good men fall at the whimsy of other men.
i hope they find that marine in one piece and return him to his family :salute

I do hope this situation turns out well. Please keep us posted.
Volunteering for military duty is hazardous. That is why people like myself hold our volunteers, our service members in such high regard. Respect to my fellow servicemen and women is given without question and they are held in my highest regard.
As one talks about war and the multitude of diverging personal philosophies that abound in the thinking thereof? I dont care what anyone thinks about war. It is dialed into the human condition like breathing and eating. It is simply going to happen.
Be prepared.

So many quotes that all boil down to pitting two sides of the same coin: might makes right. All the philosophy in the world won't have any purchase on the tip of a sword. C.F. Archimedes and that Roman soldier.
A quote that hits closer to the heart of the matter:
"To delight in war is a merit in the soldier, a dangerous quality in the captain, and a positive crime in the statesman."
-
Well I pray they find his brother soon & he's alright.
That being said the war in Afghanistan was necessary, the war in Iraq might not have been, but we needed to get rid of the Taliban who were allowing Al-Qaida to stay in their country, if we just leave now the Taliban could retake the country and Al-Qaida would be allowed to return and set up bases again, we can't allow that.
-
We're all pulling for your friends brother. :salute

unless the soldier doesn't believe in what he is doing....

In which case he's got the rest of Roman army on his case for defecting

I suppose you can declare war on those who support an idea, be it a country, a people, or many people.
Pretty much all wars are fought over an idea.

Remember nazism. Some ideas are worth the war effort. (I am not saying anything regarding the current situation).
remember how although we destroyed Germany then, Nazi ideals are still in widespread use around the world? Two Neo-Nazis live in my town actually... Problem is is that in Germany, you had to be a Nazi to join the army and almost all of Germany followed Nazi ideals. Therefore we were at war with a country with an idea. Loophole! time to weave through it <S>
-
Pfft... nevermind.
You puds are going to push your simplistic ideals into this thread anyway.
Hope your pard's bro makes it home Skorp.

Truth....pretty sure if we didn't have Military Service Members there right now we would probably be having to worry about terrorist death squads in the states...
-
wars do suck ,but so would a nuke being touched off in your neiborhood...My prayers are with all our troops..

War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.
John Stuart Mill (1806 - 1873)

Airsoft is my game, i don't play COD anymore, I'm a marksman, so I use my sniper rifle, or i will when i get a decent one, i'm on the rifle team at my high school and i got us pretty far, but we didn't quite get to the state competition.
-
World English Dictionary
sniper (ˈsnaɪpə)
n
a rifleman who fires from a concealed place, esp a military marksman who fires from cover usually at long ranges at individual enemy soldiers
You don't use your sniper. That would be like saying that you use your fast. It is poor english. A sniper is is a person, a job. It is not a rifle. A rifle may be used by a sniper, thus making it a "sniper rifle".

It's always been bad news when someone goes MIA over there. Like the Navy guys who went missing. It's bad stuff, but he's a Marine so I'm keeping hope.
:pray :salute

I don't want to get this thread off-topic, but at Junky and Tr1gg22 (or anyone else interested in Al-Qaeda): check out the book 'Looming Tower' - it's a great read about how that stuff all got started, and what they do.

well you know what they say "marines never die they just go missing for a long period of time"
but its always nice to find them after they are gone.
-
It is politically correct to say "wars suck", no doubt. When a blind eye is turned to the issues that cause small conflicts, then major and more costly conflicts occur. When the big boys on the block stay home and let the little guys duke it out, or let the little guys egg the houses the big boys live in and get away with it, it all leads to larger and worse things. Just look at history.
Each and every life lost, regardless of they are allied military, civilian, or even "baddies", are tragic. If we look at the cost in military personnel and resources, this conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan are quite low compared to what they could have been if a blind eye would have been turned.
Best of luck to the marine and the his family. May God be with him and as he gets back to safety.

haha yes. We just vanish for a little while.
We don't die either, we just leaves these bodies to go help, Chesty.

EDIT: he has been found after going missing for 5 days and is now heading back home. he had a severe bullet wound in his left leg and can hardly walk at all, which just makes it all the more worse for him. at least he got back alive...
:salute all that serve, have served and will serve.
