Title: Stanford-Tuck Film Project
Post by: Aero1 on March 02, 2011, 02:05:58 PM
Greetings all,

Skuzzy was kind enough to let me share a bit of information with you which, while not gaming-related, is pretty exciting. I'm a former online fighter-combat junkie myself, and I surf these forums from time to see what's new in the tech. I'm also a military aviation enthusiast like most of you, and one of my favorite books on the subject is Fly For Your Life, the story of Robert Stanford-Tuck. Many years after first reading the book, I find myself leading a talented team of fellow enthusiasts in an effort to bring Tuck's story to the big screen. A script is in progress, but as with every film project there will be hurdles to overcome. I can tell you that the topic is being taken very seriously and with a devotion to accuracy being paramount. We hope to issue a press release in May listing the film as being officially "in development".

Thanks Skuzzy, for letting me post this.

Cheers!

I was wandering aimlessly through my elemetary school book swap when I was in the sixth grade...was just to about to go home and I saw this novel sitting on a pile of books. It turned out to be "Fly For Your Life". Great read. I regret not being able to meet the Wing Commander before he passed away. I always wanted to. Would make a great film if they did a decent job of it.

Thanks for the comments everyone, always good to hear the effort is worth it.

I'm from the US, and in early January my wife and I had the pleasure of meeting Tuck's two sons, and in fact were served lunch by them in their home in Kent, England. After lunch they showed us a tremendous amount of memorabilia. It was a surreal experience, sitting there with these guys, drinking wine as they showed us things like the telegram received by Tuck's sister when her husband was killed (anyone familiar with Tuck's story will know the bizarre circumstances behind that sad occasion). There was a photo of the wreckage of Tuck's Gladiator after his first air-to-air collision, and a family photo of Tuck with his parents and siblings. There has been some discussion of re-releasing Fly For Your Life with images from the film and/or a whole new book featuring as much of the memorabilia as possible with the appropriate captions. Of course, all depends on where the project goes.
