Title: Cloud Cover
Post by: dimmu on March 04, 2011, 04:35:35 PM
Is cloud cover adjustable within a map's admin settings or is it designated by the terrain editor? Does cloud cover change while playing on a map?

It's my understanding that cloud cover is built into a terrain if the designer decided to add clouds.  I think, but am not sure, that if you download and use the cloud editor that you could provide a cloud file that would add clouds (but only for offline).

Yes, it is a separate file that we give skuzzy to use with a terrain. You can't affect it via the TE. It also does change while playing on the map ... you sort of define all that when you build a file but it will change over time in the arena from your starting point. Usually when designing events we have cloud cover over certain areas. Trying to put cloud over a full 512 map would be a bit taxing on the server.

You use the Cloud Editor to create your clouds for a terrain.  When you build the weather file in the CE, it produces a .awa file that you stick into your terrain's folder.  Then, when you Build the terrain, you now have default weather (cloud) patterns for that terrain, Be it offline or online, it is now part of the terrain and will show up.  You can also create a new .awa file (to use in events or whatever) and send it to Skuzzy.  When he places that new .awa in, it overrides the terrain's default cloud patterns that you placed in for the default.

There's a good write-up for it in the AHwiki also:
