Another half a billion dollars up in smoke, with the failure of the other Taurus XL rocket in 09 that was also carrying a climate satellite you'd think this would be the end for that rocket and make NASA maybe look into the viability of another launch system.

S*** happens when you try and go from 0 to 17,000 mph in a matter of minutes.

But seriously, this is just a problem that'll be ironed out in time.  If we abandoned every launch vehicle the first time it failed, we never would have gotten into space in the first place.

weather satellites or F-22s, I want F-22s  :P

I'd rather have a Skylon (http://www.reactionengines.co.uk/skylon.html). :P

I think i read somewhere that this is the 3rd failure of 9 launches for this type of rocket.

likely crashed into the ocean? they don't know where it crashed? or they don't know if it crashed?
