Title: Action at A69
Post by: Viper61 on March 05, 2011, 10:06:59 AM
Have to start off with a BIG <S> to JGII who cleared the path to A69 for the 325th VFG to drop on.

Really a great mission from my stand point with great support from JGII.  Our mission as to distroy the Hangers at A69.  The 325th VFG upped with 10 JU-88's with formations.  6 in the first flight and 4 in the second flight following 1 minute behind.  We attacked on a heading of 280 and from 18K.  JGII was sent in 15 minutes prior to conduct a Fighter Sweep and to push down the enemy fighter CAP below 15K and hold the high ground until we dropped and then RTB with us covering our 6's.  That mission they accomplished very well.

The "Fog of War":

100 miles from target and in the middle of what should have been very friendly air space a single P-39 traveling at 17K flew under my AC at less than 1000' and continued on to his target A65 I believe.  I mean you could not have planned a route and intersecting course more accurately if you would have tried.  At that point the "jig" was up and the element of surprise was lost.  Who was flying the P-39?

Enemy Spitfires engaged our second bomber flight starting about 15 miles from target after trailing us for some time.  They managed to get 2 bombers.

On RTB to A65 who do we run into CAPPing our RTB base?  The AK's in P-38's.  We called for help from JGII once again and they arrive and convinced the AK's to go and play some where else.  Lost another bomber to them but we smoked one of theirs in the process.

BDA on A69 was 6 of 6 Hangers destroyed and 2 secondary targets.  NET gain in points by my count was +210 for our side.  Just a good old fashioned fun mission.  Lots of fun, great coordination's and emails exchanges prior with JGII, excellent comm's in the air and down to the minute timing of the Fighter Sweep and Bomb drop.  And then a running gun battle for the next 20 minutes trying to escape home.

And once again a BIG <S> to JGII who allowed us in and out with only minor loss's.

I might have been the P-39. Was doing more CM stuff than flying the P39. I spotted you guys after you tangled with the AK's. I think you were RTB. I dove down thinking in was diving on the tail end 190 and realized it was one of the leading 190's. I pulled up, but I think I was spotted at that point. It is REALLY tough to spot lower enemy in that terrain! Followed at a distance for a bit, but when I saw some 190's break up and circle I figured I better give it up. As it was I had to keep hitting 'auto pilot' to type something or check something and I lost the only advantage I had.

It was our pleasure Viper61.

We had a really good night, not only accomplishing the mission but engaging and destroying five separate squadrons along the way, not including the final tussle up north at A-5.  Your pre game night comms and utilization of a comms officer on our channel were key to the success.  I am very lucky to have such a great group to kommand and can not say enough about the boys in JG11.

A very, very fun mission.

All the best.

If any of you haven't had the pleasure of working with Stampf and company, you're missing out.  It was amazing to hear how coordinated and professional they were on their comms.  I can't say enough about the job they did in clearing the way for us Friday night.

Coordinated, professional, efficient that's how I would describe JGII.  Big salute to you guys Stampf.  :salute

Thank you for the very nice compliments, lowZX14.

Give yourselves credit, too: the bombers of the 325th came in over target right on time and took out all their assigned targets.  I'd call that coordinated, professional, and efficient, sir.   :salute
