Title: Aceshigh has stopped working
Post by: Buzzard7 on March 06, 2011, 01:19:34 AM
After the latest patch I can run the game. When I go to switch arenas I get the aceshigh.exe has stopped working box.
Win7 64 bit
Only thing that has changed is the version of AH.

Another problem found is trackir hot keys not functioning in game.
Any ideas?
I did a re-install and still no hot keys. The aceshigh.exe stopped working has gone away though.
No key mappings are holding.

What I highlighted is absolutely not true.  Microsoft issues background updates to Windows 7 all the time and they do not tell you about it.  They are quietly installed on your computer.  Also note, visiting a WEB site can change your computer behavior or installing another application can alter the operating system as well.

There really is no way of knowing exactly what has changed with a Windows based computer.  The only way to prevent it from changing is to disconeect from the Internet and never install an application.

The error you are describing could be due to a number of things.  One thing to keep in mind.  If the game exits abnormally, there is a fair chance something will get corrupted in the game config files.

Rename the following folders in the game installation path.

settings
skins
sounds (in case you have any custom sounds)
ahiiterr

After that, install a fresh copy of the game, over the current installation and try it.

The fact you are having problems with the TrackIR software says something has changed on your computer.  Is this an HP computer with a Bluetooth driver installed?

Not an HP junk. Homebuilt.
I tried your suggestion and still have trouble with the trackir. I did notice that when I hit a hot key for the trackir the screen flickers and then resumes what it was doing before. If I alt-tab out of the game the hot keys work. As soon as I get back in to the game they stop. Just the screen flicker when one is pushed. The stopped working dialog has gone away.

Your telling me that if I set Win7 to only update when I tell it to that it can still update in the background? If so that sucks. The only thing updated by me was on the 8th of march a windows defender update.

Microsoft started doing hidden updates in Windows XP. It got escalated due to DRM support.

It really sounds like something is intercepting the hot keys, before they get to the game, or they are being altered as to not be recognized by the game.  The flicker also sounds like a Windows dialog (possibly) is trying to popup, but cannot due to the game running.

They are working for every other sim I play that uses trackir. Just not AH for some reason. Is there something I can check?

Skuzzy I saw in another post you said that your XP runs AH better then 7....I am planning on going to 7...from XP...should I bother? the only reason for me to do that is break the 3.3 gig capabilities of XP.....

also I do not have XP to update automatically....are you saying it still does?

Appears so Ink. That sucks moose wang. I wonder if I change compatibility to XP for AH if it would help.

I've tried that Buzzard, it doesn't work.

I've also tried;

1. Formatting several times.

2. Unplugging my ethernet cable (net access) and formatting again (in case there was 'hidden' updates) then trying AH in offline mode.

3. Multiple drivers.

4. Bought a new video card.

5. Swapped out my sound cards.

6. Tried playing AH with less than my normal 6 gig of ram.

7. Changed the clocking on my CPU.

8. Reinstalled AH.

9. Used the default sounds in AH.

10. Lowered all graphics to nothing within AH.

I am absolutely convinced it is more of a terrain problem as the issue comes up far faster on Mindano and the Philippine scenario map. So, I can't play AH on the off hours since Mindano has been up on the off hours for a long timenow and it is a one way trip to the desk top. It is extremely frustrating and I absolutely refuse to buy a new 32 bit OS just to play AH.

Fortunately, I don't CTD at all in the Training Arena.

The crashing has stopped for me. I just have the trackir problem now. Doesn't matter which arena I am in.

Delirium,

I am sorry to hear of your issues!

I too have been having an issue with Mindinao as well.  It seems as though that map does not want to function well for me and I get microstutters in the graphics.  I have gone through reinstalling, updating, memtesting, etc and have just determined that it is something with how that map interacts with my machine.

Just wanted to let you know that you are not the only one going through this issue the particular map.

:headscratch: Gentlemen-AH successfuly supports my 3.5 year old machine.
(windows7,service pack3) You may wish to start with a good 'cleaning' first.
CCleaner, registory errors, etc. I manually give this machine an enema at least
once a week. Also; intergrating the Trackir does present new challanges for many.
It's all a juggling act,really-how to balance the Trackir settings with AH settings...
"If mamas'(Trackir)not happy, nobodys happy" Your XY&Z axies would look something
like an elongated 'W' for starters. Is the set-up a pain in the prettythang? Hell yes. Is it
worth the blood sweat & tears? Hell yes.

Good flying to all.

I wish we had more voices regarding this issue. I don't want to bust HTC's balls, but I want to make sure they know it isn't just 1 or 2 of us suffering from the problem.

Have you tried reinstalling TrackIR ver 4.1.37? It could be issues with 5.xx and Win7. Naturalpoints forum seems to have users with Win7 problems starting with version 5 on up to the most recent. It's not a very sexy GUI but, it may solve your problem.

I'm on Win7 64bit using it with no problems. The 5 series just would not really work for me. Cost you all of an hour to find out.

I am not using the 5 version.
Trackir has been working fine for over a year.
