Greetings all!
I have chosen a Marine corp historical squadron for my new squad. During historical engagements in the SEA, we will represent U.S. aircraft, and, when the Navy gets here in the near future, we will represent the historical squadron at its fullest by flying the Corsairs off the aircraft carriers.
During Main arena hours, we will fly all aircraft available in Aces High, but mission nights will be limited to flying Corsairs once a week.
I have begun working on a website. I will also have a newsletter once a month with historical aritifacts of the squadron, stories, pictures.
I have a pretty good reputation as a CO after leading the 55+ members of JG2. My goals and focus is on strategy and having fun. This squadron will be limited to 20 players. I'd like to keep a small, cohesive group of flyers.

Here is some historical data on the VMF-323:
The nickname "Death Rattlers" and an appropriately designed squadron patch were adopted byVMF-323 soon after commissioning. Based upon an incident wherein a large rattle snake fell prey to three VMF-323 lieutenants and wound up adorning the unit's ready room. Both nickname and patch continue in use today.
Squadron Patch The circle is for the solidarity of the Squadron, a compact, well rounded-out unit. The rattle-snake represents the vicious striking power of the aircraft we fly into combat.
The most distinctive feature of the patch is the F4U Corsair(its inverted gull wing (silohouette) shown in the lower section of the insignia. If you'd like to see the real VMF-323,the squadron provided Marine airpower for the 1949 John Wayne movie classic, "Sands of Iwo Jima."

What does VMF stand for?
I've wondered ever since I joined WB and saw all those VMF squads, but never asked.

Well, until we get Rain, snow, sleet...I guess we stay VMF without the A...(Hint Hint HTC!!)
Actually, they didn't have a VMFA until the Korean War I believe for this particular squadron.

Yes the VMFA is a "modern" squadron designation. Most are just referred to Attack squadrons. Do you know what was the airship squadron designation, it keeps slipping my mind. Of course a mind is a terrible thing to slip.

Yes, they names them "U.S.S. (Akron)" etc.
Same as their ships.
-
Well you made me go look it up.
Z = airship
ZP 1 was the first Airship Patrol squadron

Huh? That's weird, then why was the Arkron named the USS Akron? Or are you talking Marine Corp?
-
The rigid airships had names just like ships but they were still part of a squadron.
For example, I dont know for sure if the Akron was in ZP 1 but if it was its "parent" unit would be ZP 1, Airship Patrol Squadron No. 1.
There were many Navy Blimps used in WW2 for ASW work but they had no names just and ID number like 554, but the squadron designation was ZP ex. Airship # 554 of
airship patrol squadron 1 would look like this:
554 of ZP 1

Thanks for the info!

We are no longer recruiting members in the VMF-323 at this time.
Please see our very good friends and co-squad flyers at either JG2, JG54 or the 332nd 'Flying Mongrels'.

"V" stands for vulching. You have the MF figured out you said. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
