When I make a map for the CBM, why would it come out totally black?
-
First thing that comes to mind is to make sure you index it (the color) before you save it as a bmp.
-
Is it an INDEXED 256-color 1024x1024 graphic?
-

I don't know what that means.
I created it when I clicked on "create map" in the TE. When I open it in paint to save it as 256 bmp for the texsrc folder, it's all black.
If I try to save it as 256 bmp it's still all black.
Tried it several times, still the same.
It's worked before on other experiments I tried but this time I was doing some testing creating elevation files with a combination of programs.
I'm sure I have something way out of wack.
I do show a terrain in the editor, It just doesn't want to make a map. (other than a pure black one)

You need to have your red grid squares turned on when u hit Make Map. That will fix it. :salute

Yep, that worked.
Can't believe I tried it so many times with out the grid squares. :lol

Another thing you should be aware of when using a CBM map created this way. It is not very accurate making coastlines; it has a hard time differentiating water from low lying land. So in many cases it create a map that shows a lot more land (especially around islands) than there actually is.
-
It's tough to use the DEM's. On my first attempts there was way too much land missing.
After monkeying around with it, I got more of the land, but the terrain is way too extreme elevations wise.
Oh well, I'm learning by experimentation.

MrMidi, where's that great CBM tutorial...I'm on vacation out of town, so don't have most of my resources handy.
