Pitch a show to the Discovery Channel like "Greens Beluga Hunter". Although I don't know how "crikey" would sound with an eskimo accent...... :noid

Best thing that ever happened to me was getting laid off from a steady job. Two years later my income had tripled and I was in board of the new company.
Sometimes it takes guts to break from the cycle to get results, sometimes you need a push. Best of luck.

RIght now, I would even be happy with some grumby flipping burgers job, at least until I can get into EMT work.

You're old school. Nowadays people dream about a steady life like that. Back in the old days people worked for the same employer their whole lives - and they may have been even poor but they had a secure foundation.
Nowadays you're on two weeks notice in any big company, whether you know it or not. Money talks and worker walks.
-
i've been through so many career changes and jobs it ain't even funny...so far i'm in my 6th year with my current employer...before that, never stayed at the same place longer than 4 1/2 years.
do what you gotta do to get by...then find something you will enjoy doing for a long time.

my Father had only two jobs, 2 years as a civilian ( just out from the army working at the Army weapons disposal at Ft Lewis, then the Northern Pacific RR /Burlington Northern RR now, started as security watchman left 46 years later as Dispatcher, his last 2 years he burned up his occured vacation time lol

I gave my heart and soul to the fast food industry for almost 9 years. A month ago my assistant decides to cuss me out in front of customers (F bombs and all). Since I wasn't allowed to reprimand him without my supervisor's permission I went to her about it. Her reply..."I don't think a reprimand is warranted". WTF!!!! Two years ago he got into it with a manager lower than him in the same manner. She got suspended, he got nothing. I told my boss that I couldn't run a store in which my assistant could do what ever he wanted .
Three weeks ago tomorrow I get called in on my day off for a meeting with the owner. I figure maybe something is going to finally happen to this guy. His first words to me.."I accept your resignation". WTF!!! I look to my supervisor and say "What the heck is this about?!" She replies "You said you couldn't work with him and wanted to quit". I replied to her, "I only asked for him to be reprimanded for cussing me out in front of customers." She looks to the owner and says "I don't recall having that conversation."
To top it off I file for unemployment. It gets denied because the company says I quit. So I appeal it. Waiting to hear about that. Good point they gave me a 2 week severance. I will get my last check this week.
Silver lining is this. I went to open job interviews today. I got hired as long as I make it through the next 3 days of training. My base salary will be almost double what I made as a store manager BEFORE commission. So I got paid to sleep in for 3 weeks and start a new higher paying job 3 weeks to the day.

coolness.
for what it's worth now.........carry a digital voice recorder with you. whenever youi have any of those types of conversations.........you need to record them. don't let the other person know.
in your above case, legal or not is irrelevant. just do it. can you imagine the look on your managers face when you played back the conversation that she said she couldn't recall?> :devil

Be careful, in some states I believe recording a conversation without the other knowing is illegal. It is legal in Texas as long as there is a consenting party, and you can be the consenting person. What I am saying is make sure you know your state law concerning this so you don't open a bigger can of worms.

This got me curious, so I did a quick search. Appears there are 12 states that require two party consent.

If you live in one of those states, you might want to be a little careful about recording conversations, or the issue could be you in court. :D

Damn dude, I'm sorry. It's a horrible industry, any large-name food or retail gig. Fortunatley for me it only took 3 years of my life to figure out it was best time to move on, with or without them as a good reference. When they call you back in 8-10 weeks, tell them you already got a job paying you twice as much, so if they make it 3-times and to fire that guy who got into it with you, then they got a deal. :D
