Title: texture questions
Post by: jimson on March 16, 2011, 05:14:50 PM
Messing around with a Cliffs of Dover sort of thing.

Can't get the cliff face to be sheer without making the surrounding terrain like 5000 feet high which I don't want to do.

Anyway to get a more vertical cliff face without increasing elevation?

Also the texture that gave me the whitest color was actually "deep water" not sure if the TE will read it as actual water or not

Does anyone have a really white custom texture that might work?

Also at the base of the so-called cliffs I'd like to have some sort of grey rocky rip rap instead of beach anyone know of a way to do that?

We're pretty much stuck with the elevation resolution we have.  In order to get more sheer cliffs, you have to have around 5,000' elevation - that's what I did for my Canyon terrain and you found out by playing around.  This is probably why nobody's gotten an English coast terrain with actual Dover cliffs.  :frown:

For texture, try the snow/coral texture or create a custom one in Photoshop or other graphics editor.

Yep you either have to keep the elevation to 5000 or less or build a custom object for the cliffs.

I have this image of the cliff's. You are welcome to use it and modify it for what ever purpose you need.

Custom object? Hmmm, that could solve a lot of problems. I would assume they could even be close to the water line eliminating the steep water slope problem.

Anyone have some tutorials for creating custom objects? LOL.

Never mind, found one.
