Post by: Tyrannis on March 18, 2011, 07:36:32 AM
hey guys, thinking about flying the c.202 in EW. but i have pretty much 0% experiance in this aircraft, was hoping you guys could tell me the best ways to fight the other aircrafts of the room.

what ACM's would i need to know with the c.202 to win dogfights against...

spits-
hurricanes-
109's-
p40s-
p39s-
brews-
f4fs-
p38G-
fw190a5-

thnxs for the advice guys <S>  :salute

Anything slow you out run and out climb.  It is an "e" fighter that prefers to go verticle instead of turning.  I used to fly the 205 all the time.   Great plane.

Tyrannis,
first of all, its a great little bird, good choice in the early war.
Its pretty fast in the EW standards, also its climb rate is great, even when compared to some LW monsters. But its weak guns give you trouble when BnZing.
It can turn well, as long as it has speed. The stall speed/cornering speed is high, you will have trouble keep your flaps open, and they arent the best. Its a stabile plane tho, you can try bravely in the vertical reversals, it wont let you in trouble.
Against hurricanes, the best use is the rolling scissors. The hurries have very poor flaps. Same against the spit1, it has better flaps, but try to force the spit into a negative G maneuver, and the fight is yours. P39s are easy meat if you can catch them, same with the 190a5. Against p40s, f4fs, you can scissor against a less well trained pilot, but basically go to the vertical and rope them. Flat turn is acceptable against the f4f too, it doesnt have the power to get around quick once it deployed its flaps. Brews will be really hard nuts while your guns are weak and you wont be able to hang on their six long enough to fill them with lead.
One thing, leave the 7.7mm lil mgs at the hangar. They are useless.
Best luck with this beauty.

seriously? you want to know what maneuvers you can use against that list of planes?   :rofl

in ew, if you find someone willing to fight...go buy a lottery ticket because it's your lucky day.

just do some of that pile-it $#!7 in every situation and learn from your mistakes...  :joystick:

would the 2 12.7mm + 2 7.7mm gun package be worth taking or should i stick to the 2 12.7mm package only?

from the way you talk, i can tell you havent spent much time in EW. whenever i go in there i allways find atleast a fight or two.

and i'll most likely make mistakes, but no harm in learning some info on what the planes capable of before heading into battle.  :)

From the way you type, the Debrody (from Hungary) speaks better Engrish dan u.
Just sayin'.

The C.20#s, in my experience, fliy like the F6F, only worse. It tries to be a 109, it tries to be a
pony, a zero, etc. but just can't pull one off. It does just about everything relatively well, but
nothing extraordinarily well. Think of it as a tier below the F6F with a bit more acceleration.

:lol  en guarde'...i've spent time in the ew, that's how i know what to expect.

in all seriousness, no amount of words can do what you're wanting...nobody handles a toon plane like you do...every situation is different...someone with a lot of experience can use what is perceived to be an inferior aircraft and make it appear to be a superior aircraft.

the only planes on your list that it has a chance against are the hurricane1, spit1 and the f4f...assuming you know how to fly it to its strengths...and there are at least a dozen toon pile-its that could spank you in that macchi all day long no matter what you did.

get the idea now?  :old:

Au contraire, m'sieur l'marine.  The 38 v. 202 match is one of the best fights AH has to offer.  And while the P-40E can come close to holding its own, usually it's overshadowed by the 202.  And while I haven't flown the 202 much against FWs (hey, they're both Axis planes!), I think I'd rather be in the 202 than the A5.

Oldman,
i think in an 1v1, the c202 wins against the 190a5. In a 10v10, the c202 has no chance.

:neener:  in my experience the 202 is only a match against the 38 when it tries to turn fight the 202...if the 202 has an alt advantage and can maintain e in the attack, the 38 could go down...i agree with the p-40e assessment...190a5 vs c202, keep the a5 out of the 8-12k alt range and don't try to maintain a turning fight with the 202...it's a win for the a5 every time, especially with the light gun package...the a5 can dive very fast and still maintain control when the 38, 202, 109 lose maneuverability...

but then, that's just the things i've learned from a lot of  --->  :ahand  trying to fly that little spaghetti fighter...or beating them in my 190a5.

When you look at them isolated it's true that they don't pack much of a punch, but they DO increase the 202's firepower by 35% if you go by the numbers here http://users.skynet.be/Emmanuel.Gustin/fgun/fgun-pe.html .
Compare that to their weight which, including the 1,000 rds, corresponds to 17% fuel or 8% when emptied.

I'm always bringing them anyway.

Yup.  They have virtually no meaningful effect on performance, and every bullet helps when you're flying a 202.

I've never felt the C.202 was a match for any of the P-38s, even in a turn fight as the P-38 can easily gain an angle on a C.202 in an angles fight using vertical turns.

You're better off asking what kind of tactic to use against those planes rather than what ACM to use.

Which P38 model?  the early p38 only out climbs the c202 above 20k.

Even though a plane might not have a better climb rate, it can have better vertical performance as climb rate and vertical performance aren't excusively tied to one another.

just had my first engagement against a hurr2.

i was getting the upper hand on him in the vertical, but it seems like nomatter how many rounds i put into him i wasent damaging him :/  (had the 2 12.7mm package)

then we both went into a high speed dive. he was able to pull out of his but my plane wouldnt pull of fast enough and slamed into the ground.

i was going a little over 400mph.

i guess the c202 isent very responsive at speeds above 400mph?

Your skill in the p-38 plays a big part in that. Lots of people really butcher the p-38's capability. Seen by MY perception where I hardly ever get in trouble against the 38. Just looked up my stats from the last 2½ tours and I'm 20:1 against the P-38s in my 202.
