I'm certain HT's right about giving players what they want and not what they ask for. but being aware of this phenomenon invokes another human trait...
curiosity.
I find even I have no idea what I am looking for when playing this game. Given my attention span is that of a gnat and i get bored easily I would have to objectively say flashy lights and pretty colors and things that splode that isn't me would be close to the mark of what I would be interested in. so theoretically things I ask for would further this. but in doing so to much of a good thing would invoke diminishing returns on the "payoff moments"
looking at this from my personal perspective (the only one I have avilable) I find I am always seeking "the best fight". thought what my opinion of the best fight could change from moment to moment based on a whim.
case in point i am in a mood to furball. My first destination if numbers are available is the ww1 arena. it is a place of furball paradise. I say to myself as I am raking a camel from 20 yards away with mgs after furiously turning to get on their six... "that was fun". then i do it 15 more times and I am looking for another "best fight" in the late war arena.
I may have dropped the furball as the top priority or i would still be in the ww1 arena.
so now I am seeking complexity.
My current whim is now "the best Total war Furball." so I head to the MA and fortunately Ozkansas is up with my beloved tank town and it is in a full blow land and air fight. so i up my il2 and ask my squad to fly air cap for all the angry gvers i am about to piss off. I proceed to slaughter gvs with the lethal yet vulnerable il2 and i am having a blast! though my side is outnumbered with just 3-4 firendly gv's vs about 7-8 enemy gvs my il2 keeps the attackers from taking my sides gv base. and the angry tankers are getting slaughtered by muppets in 109k4's. This would perhaps go on indefinitely but the enemy side got so pissed an entire mission and some squads upped in tank town just to run the 2-3 muppets flying fighters and my il2 because we were having to much fun. so we ran away and landed and 20 red dots circled aimlessly while the ground war continued undisturbed from above :D
but had they not I may have eventually hit to much of a good thing and got bored and logged off. but i hope Ozkansas is on again tonight i love that tank town. :)
so thats my self diagnosed look at what I think I am looking for.
so now tell me what I actually want to find or hunt for in AH that will keep me flying regularly?

Ozkansas bears much fruit. Her flowing bosoms provide fertile playing grounds for the Jeep enthusiast. One must learn to avoid the odd rogue Me 262 though.

OzKansas and Ndisles are by far my favorite maps just because of the center islands.....very rarely will you not have a fight there.
Like to see a tanktown with rivers that block the spawns from eachother so people can't drive half an hour to camp spawns/hangars

Hmmmm...you seem to have over looked the simple truth...perhaps this may just ruin things for you since it will make you look deep into yourself and find that all this you have stated about curiosity and boredom is nothing but a front for an evil underlying trait....You are a killer....and you show no regard for for other peoples fun!!! and find only excitement in the destruction of virtual life in anyway possible....Not only do you do this openly and with no regard to the virtual families you are destroying but you have surrounded yourself with a cult following who find themselves sucked into a world of destruction with the belief that they are doing greater things with this virtual cull....
answer me this...what do you see when you look at this

it looks like our squad logo. animal but possibly playing the drums.

It looks like a white rectangle standing on its end with black spots on it :devil
-
I see a jeep racing down hill trying to get away from the taters...1.2.3.4 shots and the start of a speech bubble that we can all guess what is about to be said...... :noid
Oh toejame........I'm not supposed to tell you what I see.....It looks like a white rectangle standing on its end with black spots on it :devil
which end?

interesting read on the OP, got me thinking.
Cactus.... :rofl

I like air combat for the same reasons I like fencing or chess, I work towards mastering my chosen plane(s) for the same reason I work towards mastering the sword or shooting a tighter grouping...unlike the OP, even if this game consisted entirely of, say, dueling with a single plane type,I'd still be here, because polishing minutiae is something I don't have a problem with. May I say though, thank goodness the game is so varied and in-depth!
