Title: No more X-52 for me
Post by: caldera on March 22, 2011, 11:10:12 PM
My first X-52 was a lemon from the get-go.  No amount of usb hubs or cable tightening helped.  My second one was good, albeit with a nose bounce problem that never quite went away.  Still, it was a comfortable stick with a lot of useful buttons.

Unfortunately, the button that is used the most went schizo on me two nights ago - the hat switch.  X-52 #2 lasted 1 year and 6 months.  Useless now because of a bad switch.  I hereby retract any previous recommendation of this joystick.  Buyer beware.  :uhoh

I will more than happy to sell you my awesome ch stick  :rofl.  unfortunately it had a major malfunction.  last night and this morning I lost calibration again, so I opened it to see if there was anything broken inside.  I wish somebody would've told me that you're not supposed to use a 48,000 lbs steel slab to crack it open, so it got smashed a bit.  I then tried to weld it together by using the torch we have for cutting slabs in half that didnt work either.  I didnt take a picture of the stick after I was done remoding it  :cry.  but at least I am happy using my old 3d pro.  just to give you an idea this are the torches we use at work to cut thru 9 inches of steel.

Wow, really sorry caldera.  I had just posted this to answer another X52 user's post, and was coming here to ask help for the nose bounce.

Quote
Let's make a list of things that you have tried.

Check the connections (in front of the joystick and throttle) I find that mine work their way out rather easily.

Try another USB port (I had heard that this has been able to fix some problems)

Re Install the drivers (I just figured this one out, X52 has two files that I need to execute in order to have it fully supported).  One file contains the drivers, the other contains the software, that places a little icon of a joystick in your taskbar.

Let me know how things turn out.  I have heard funky things about the X52, I must have gotten the only one that works well.   :uhoh  (Few years  :joystick: and still pretty happy)

The only complaint that I have is not really the joystick's problem.  When zoomed in, I notice a lot of bounce / wiggle from stick input.  I mean that instead of drawing the nose left or right with rudder input, the nose moves in an egg shape movement snapping back in the direction I pulled the nose from.

Sorry too Semp.  You are both good guys to fly around or against, I hope nothing gets in the way of that continuing.  :salute

Semp good thing I don't have that cutter.  I'd be finding ways to use it, out of the ordinary.  Wife tells me she can't find the can opener.  I go..... no problem bring it over here..... Welding mask flips down .......    :D

Semp, you really love that CH stick! :rofl   I'm going out to the hated BestBuy today for a cheap replacement.  Seriously considering getting a Warthog, but won't have $ for that until summer.

Thanks Chilli, but AH has replaced "real life" activities.  It would be impossible for me to leave.  :cry

As far as the nose bounce you are experiencing, look up the "magnet mod" fix on the web.  It is extremely easy - anyone can do it and it doesn't cost anything.  Make sure you have glue on hand before you start ( so you only have to do it once).  It did help with my nose bounce problems.  The bounce was mostly eliminated.

Microsoft Precision pro's are crappy. Used it for 10 years now and already the hat switch started to get bad.

Yes its neat but will be even neater when the finally get around to fixing the POT axes as well.  Rudder, throttles, toe brakes, and trims are all still wonky with the reversal bug.

As far as the X52.. I used mine for four years with no issues whatsoever.  It still works fine but I use the G940 now.  I did perform the 'magnet mod' out of boredom to the X52 not too long ago, but haven't yet really used it to see if it made any difference.

Funny my g940 blew out last week, one of the motors is fried and every time I give it some right airleron it makes a ungodly noise. I bought a CH instead and I love it

F the warthog....... just do it right and get yourself and simple and reliable ch setup. Even used gear isn't a bad idea since they are sooo rugged. 500 bucks for the warthog is too much money and its only a hotas no pedals

Ive had the same X52 since it came out. Well, with the exception of "breaking" it to get a new one as the warranty ran out. I haven't had one issue with it.

Had a CH Fighterstick for a short while.  Don't want another one.  CH pedals were too close together for my liking.  Gave me the "crushed junk" feeling.
I'll consider the Logitech HOTAS, but apparently there are bugs still to be worked out.  My favorite stick was the Fox2 from Thrustmaster (now called T/1600 I think), but those don't hold up very well either.

Better start praying then....

I own a Logitech G940 HOTAS, G35 headset, X52 (retired), X45 (retired), wireless mouse, speakers, and a month old G27 steering wheel/pedal/shifter setup. Not that I am a Logitech fan per say, they just make a product that I usually like at a fair price. I own a X45 and X52 that both still worked after a year and a half of hard use. In fact I only bought a new stick to upgrade after I got tired of the throttle pot spiking after heavy throttle usage. My experience with Logitech has been good, sure there product had some issues but it was well after I got my moneys worth.

I didn't realize how much Logitech I owned til moving recently, it just worked out that way after looking at all the options for each individual piece.
