In her day (mainly 50's and 60's) she was indeed a hawtie and in the 70's the tabloids target.  She was married so many times there was a band there to do rimshots at the weddings when she took the vows. 

She did turn 14 shades of squirrely after the 80's.  Sad.

She was one of a kind.  I remember watching Cleopatra as a young lad in the early 1980's.  To this day, when hear that name, I get the image of Liz in my mind.

God save liz taylor. I may be a teenager.. and she was a pensioner for my entire lifetime..... but when I watch the old movies... lets just say I forget that detail.

Maybe, there are lots of nuttys out there that use and lots of nuttys that are sober.  But IRC I believe her main vice - besides drinking - and like many many many stars of her generation, was strong perscription pain meds.  Also, you gotta take into account her unique upbringing, I will always remember her classic description of growing up on the MGM lot since the young age of I think 10 or 12 in the '40s, she didn't have a clue what in that world around her was real or not.
