The sounds are bad.
All engines sound the same, the only difference if between fighters and bombers.
The gun sounds are the same and don't sound real. Have you ever heard .50 fire in gun camera? Doesn't sound like that in AH.
The instrument panel is bad. Hi Tech copied the overall shape of the cockpit but has no regard for gauge placement and design.
The air action is like quake.
Bunch of fighters turning and turning all the time and thats it.
IL-2 will be better even tough i never played it, this is from following development and beta tester sayings.
People said how many people in MP in IL-2?
16 for dogfight and 32 for coop?
How many for AH? 100+?
When do you see more than 15 people in one place at one time? Thats the most i have ever seen. I have not and been playing for 5 days. Someone said 30 bombers at once.
I don't belive that, 30 bombers going to fly to a target. Yeah Right, didn't even show up on map and no body reported it.
Everybody flies the same planes. N1k, Spit, La7 and then F4u, some P-51 and P-47, less 109 and 190.
And all this for 30$ a month?
Hi Tech are not stupid. They want to make money and thats what they are doing.
Ok, 30 a month and how many players?
I have seen register numbers in the thousands so i'll say 5000 estimated members.
5000 x 30 a month is 150.000 a month is these guys income. Cost of development?
What cost? Fix this fix that release new version, add new plane, whoopy do.
Hi Tech = Hi Profits
The FM feels weird, like youyr in a UFO or something, its not like rl and i have flown a Cessna, but no warbirds. The basic princapls of flight still aply.
Online sims kind of suck. I can see the attraction tough, play with hundreds of other human players. But, no.
100 people in lobby but you only see not more than 20 at a time just like in a box sim. Maybe if everybody went to the same place at the same time but that would be slow.
IL-2 will make all sims obsolete.
And thats that.
Flame on :)

Woah! You're right! It's JUST LIKE YOU'RE IN A UFO!

Can't believe I read the whole post when you obviously DON'T know what your talking about.

BZZZTTTTT!
Wrong answer, I'm a beta tester and I assure you HTC has NOTHING to worry about from IL-2.
It's pretty graphics and A.I. mixed with a few online players, <YAWN> if I wanted to battle A.I. I could play any number of boxed aircraft games with just as much enjoyment.

I would like an intelligent response.
And yours would be if you want an intelligent response, post an intelligent topic. Thats all you have to say to me?
Have you ever flown in a plane?
Compare it to AH fm and tell me.
Flame suit tested and ready :)

Ya know I would really like to post an intelligent response....but the lack of an intelligent post prevents that.
You reap what you sow moron. Make a post like this and prepare to be roasted. You come here and say that these things are wrong because you feel[/i] that they are wrong. As far as multiplayer, I have been around since Tour 6 or 7 or something like that and I have seen plenty of large bomber formations from time to time. And I am sorry that we dont all fly what you want us too. Please post a list of the planes you would like us to fly and how you want us to fly them and we will try to be more accomodating. And if you would shut your trap long enough to quit whining and do a search on this BBS you can find a very nice user contributed sound pack that quite a few folks use and like.
But I guess that would be too hard, huh? Its much easier to sit back after your 5 days in the game and just squeak about stuff.
Moron.

Errr, WW2 fighter aircraft had microphones on their cameras?
We can always find fault with just about anything. There are gives and takes and I think HTC has done a good job.

pdog,
How long have you actually flown Aces High in the arena?
I did not get anywhere near as much out of the game during my two week trial. Only months afterward can I say that the FM feels right for most all of the planes.
I am currently taking private lessons in a Cessna Skyhawk 172, and although the actual feeling of flight in real life can not be compared to a computer game, Aces High does feel as 'right' to me as any other sim. It's not WWIIF - you have to be careful and sensitive with how you jerk your stick.
On a side note, I am also a beta tester for IL-2 and while I enjoy the game immensely so far (this is about all I can say without violating my NDA) it's not in the same class as AH.
As for not seeing that many planes, you should try joining a mission put together by guys such as hblair, ripsnort, zigrat, or any of the Arabian Knights. When it's Assassin squad night, we usually have about 8-9 guys fly together in a mission and encounter many more. Even with 20 planes in the same area, it's a ton of fun.
Try flying more, you'll appreciate all the small details. It takes time.
edit - also, if you are dissatisfied with the sounds included with the game, there are plenty of add on packs that hard working pilots like flakbait, mitsu, etc etc (cant remember em all, sorry!) have put together. You can find the links on the HTC site.

Thanks for the kind words moose and for not calling me a moron. 5 days flying like i said.
It seems name calling is a trademark for immaturity and stupidty. When Gunman26 shot me down he called me a moron when i said nothing to him or anybody. Nice guy.
Steve there was sound in gun camera. Camera's had sound recording ability in ww2 the same for gun camera. If you watched some documentaries, you would know.
I don't see whats so special about AH.
I wonder why nobody has commeneted on the profits and 30 a month? Hmm, maybe i was right for once and not a moron.

pdog,
Profits.. sure you make a GAME to make some money. But think about this. Add in the price of the servers (notice multiple), the routers, the bandwidth to allow hundreds online at the same time and not be warpy or not be able to get in at all. Figure the fact that for this money HiTech programs on updates and adding more features to keep Aces High the best of the best 5 days a week in the office and then goes home on the weekend and does it again for the fun of it and to keep the game improving. The artists are working 5-7 days aweek improving the game with new planes/tanks/railroads/terrians/boats and going back and updating some of the older stuff as they get time. Figure all the manhours(and womanhours) a month put in at HTC. Pyro spends hours and hours researching and BUYING books, etc to come up with the best, most correct numbers for the flight model.
HiTech has hours in actual warbirds. There are SEVERAL real warbird owners that play this game. With a computer you will never get the REAL feel of flight. But they do a damn good job of making it close and still being on the numbers performance wise. Do they make mistakes? Of course but they work their tulips off to fix them.
HTC are not out to please everyone and yes they are out to make money with the GAME. I like to go to work and make money myself :D
The community here is just friggin awesome. Remember this tho they are very touchy when someone with no clue comes in and starts spouting off diahrrea of the mouth with no time spent in the game. They are more than willing to discuss in a rational matter any point of the game with proof behind the arguement. Bring some real world data and post it up for discussion on the flight models and what could be wrong with them but feel is objective from person to person.

its ok pdog a lot of people find this game too tough. there is no shame in moving on to something like cfs2. everyone understands - the point is you tried. good luck!

Ah...so now the real truth comes out....if it was the price you were squeaking about, why didnt you just say so? In my opinion, HTC provides a form of entertainment to me for $30 a month....and as far as I'm concerned, its worth every penny.
Any other questions?

I've got a sound pack with 376 sounds in it for every single aircraft/vehicle. Superfly, official 3D guru at HTC, uses my pack. Mitsu has various sounds you can swipe off his site that are great. One other guy [can't recall his name] did a buttload of sounds for AH that can still be had too.
The instrument panel is bad. Hi Tech copied the overall shape of the cockpit but has no regard for gauge placement and design.
Actually they do have regard for cockpit design. Most of the important guages are instantly visible with the default settings. And if you actually knew about F10, you could reset both the view keys and the views to what you wanted. A little tinkering never killed anyone....yet anyway.
The air action is like quake.
Bunch of fighters turning and turning all the time and thats it.
It can be at times. When I was in the main I found that I'd shoot down a huge variety of aircraft types. In H2H I've shot down every single aircraft type here, and I've blown up everything there is to blow up. At one time or another anyway.
IL-2 will be better even tough i never played it, this is from following development and beta tester sayings.

When do you see more than 15 people in one place at one time? Thats the most i have ever seen. I have not and been playing for 5 days.
I've seen 217 people logged in, and that was back just before 1.05 was released. This is 1.07 with 1.08 being worked on right now. Days [US time] are the largest crowd draws in AH. If you fly at 3am US time you'll see maybe 30 or 40 people in, usually guys from Australia or Japan.
Someone said 30 bombers at once.
I don't belive that, 30 bombers going to fly to a target. Yeah Right, didn't even show up on map and no body reported it.
Seen 10 B-17's flying in formation to a target and I attacked it with two other guys. Results? 6 B-17's downed and all three of us spiraling in to the dirt. I had a load of fun doing that! Recently people have said they've seen groups of 3 to 10 Lancasters, B-17's, Ju-88s, and B-26's going to various targets.
Everybody flies the same planes. N1k, Spit, La7 and then F4u, some P-51 and P-47, less 109 and 190.
Well if you flew around more, and actually went towards the big red bar, you'd see all kinds of aircraft being used.
And all this for 30$ a month?
Hi Tech are not stupid. They want to make money and thats what they are doing.

Actually the high price keeps the annoying rabble out, or at least most of 'em. Reading the bandwidth bills for HTC would probably make me faint. Plus they have to pay Skuzzy off for all the doughnut runs and such.
The FM feels weird, like youyr in a UFO or something, its not like rl and i have flown a Cessna, but no warbirds. The basic princapls of flight still aply.
Warbirds [the game] has such a screwed up FM it ain't funny. I'd advise giving it a shot, but if you can't turn an Fw-190 around inside three grid squares blame iEN.
Online sims kind of suck. I can see the attraction tough, play with hundreds of other human players. But, no.

Flame on :)
Again it depends on the hours you fly. If you're in Europe you probably won't catch many people until the sun comes up in the US. Pacific person? Same thing. US hours are the times you see monster crowds in the MA, and at least a half dozen in the other arenas. IL-2 is vaporware until I see the box on the shelf, so that's out. Plus you say you haven't seen it, just read what BETA testers have said. Therefor you're in no position to lay any claims as to what IL-2 can or can't do.
I've been here since BETA and I don't plan on leaving unless I have to. Online flight sims are what you make them. If you're the type of person who wants everything done for you, then leave. This game requires you to think on the fly, tinker with settings, and generally mess with it to get the best experience. I'd have to say AH just doesn't fit you. Adios.

I think your right flakbait i'll try it until trail runs out but i don't think its for me. Its not that its too tough fish i just don't think i like it. Maybe something is wrong with me? Yeah.
Contrary to my name (109) i fly the 205.
Find a af that has lots of action (red bar)
Go to af near it and climb in that direction.
Get there at 10000 feet and dive on somebody.
Extend very nice and there is a N1K following me up when i just did textbook classic BnZ and this guy still following me.
Try with P-47/190 same results that N1K is a super plane and most people fly it.

Pdog,
Have U ever fired a .50 cal or a 20mm I dont think so. A .50cal sounds simaler to what they have in AH now as for the FM beeing UFO ish fly a Typhoon its nothing near a UFO I should know. <JK> But the FM is pretty good and better than most flight sims online I have seen in a long time. So how can U judge a game on a nother game that U have never played? I agree the game leave much to be desired but its the best we have and the best I am willing to play for now.

pdog_109:
have you ever bailed out of your plane in AH, and deployed your chute. well I have done it a few times and I can tell you with out a dought, It is not like the real thing.
I have jumped out of real planes 185 times, and when you free fall, all you hear is wind. but in AH, there is no wind blast and I can hear the guys on roger wilco. and when you open your chute in real life, there is a bit of a jolt, but not in AH. and when you are under your canopy, there is still wind, but not in AH.
So as I know how it feels to jump out of a plane, open my chute, and float to the ground under my chute. I know it is not like the real thing in AH, so I will never again play AH because it is not real enough.

This is from someone usually marked as a whiner (although I only whined about P51 FM almost 2 yrs ago).
AH is IMO the best online sim. WB comes close. WW2OL might be close in few months.
Offline sims can't even compare to an online sim. Even if offline sim starts with better potential, FM etc. Online sim will catch up and soon pass it. Online sim is a continous development. This is the main reason why I didn't even look at offline sim when I tried WB and AH. Apart from superior AI in online sim (well, not always - you still have Spit drivers here :)).
FM in offline sims ? Now that one is what I call biased. Take US made offline sim. Your P51 will turn inside any German plane and even Spitfire. Only Zeke might be immune, it is too well known as a good turner for authors to get away with it. Il-2 ? Try to compare same plane types in AH and Il-2. Is Ah biased ? Dunno, we might need UN made online sim. Or alien made.
Some of AH pilots went to WW2OL, mainly LW types (they were badly missed in the Rumble, to be honest). My tako on why they left is lack of historical aspect. AH is fantasy arena. They went to other sim, despite its FM. HTC should think of it. With historical arena, you might get some of them back. Add historical cockpits, gauges and metric system and there you go.
You say LW planes suck ? They were made for different kind of fights than the ones you have in AH. They are hunters, not fighters (Jaeger, German expression for fighter plane means hunter). You should look at those plane as such. That's why you see far more Spits & Nikis. Most consider LW planes boring. This is pretty shortsighted statement, but I don't want to discuss it here. If Luftwaffe wanted to build perfect AH arena plane, they'd make full-metal Fokker DrI, put a pair of MK103 cannons on it, boost the ailerons and fit it with DB603 engine. Now that'd be the best killer in the arena.
P.S.
190 feels much better in AH than WB. Although FM was done by same people, go figure.

p-dog.. i have seen you in h2h a couple times now and you are just one of the punks that fly around in tempest and act like u know what ur talking about and think you are a good pilot. If you have such a problem with ah then leave. I know i will not miss you.
sorry if this sounds rude guys but its the truth    (http://null)
-
also.... your telling me you rarely see more than 15 people in one place?!? I think you need to lay off the boo's a bit cuz u can get even half of that in h2h!!... and i have seen more then 25 in one area quite easily and frequently.
-
This is from someone usually marked as a whiner (although I only whined about P51 FM almost 2 yrs ago).
LOL... This is gonna be fun!!
Hristo...no the reaosn ya got pegged as a whiner was because of statements along these lines...

See... I said this would be fun. I've missed you. <kiss-kiss>
But what really gets me is this..
Some of AH pilots went to WW2OL, mainly LW types (they were badly missed in the Rumble, to be honest).
The LW guys I flew against in the Rumble were damn sharp; and I spent mosta my air time just tryin to stay alive. The LW I saw flew like pros. The 'LW' in AH ain't dead because some guys went to other sims. A lotta non-LW affiliated members have stolled off to other pastures. Chit.. Hristo; why you dissin yer boys?? damn; fool...
And where the hell were you the last year?? LOL!
And none of this has a damn thing to do with this thread's two week wonders wail... nothin we ain't all seen 3 dozen times a year in every game ever produced... "I don't like it; so somethin must be wrong with it.."
BTW; Nice Rumble Hristo. Enjoyed that immensely. :)

P51D in 1999 was a joke. It went worse after it, then it went better with combat flaps. Just facts.
-
Save the money on the flame suite bdog and get a staight jacket.
The sounds for each plane are configurable and customizable. Same for each weapon.
A medium size carrier attack in US prime time will have 40-60 aircraft in the same geographical area. almost every time.
The FM feels weird to you because you are sitting on your joystick. Try using your hand instead of your bellybutton to fly with.
-
Sounds are bad-> there is plenty of sounds to replace original ones, some are very good (if this is so important to say a simulation i bad  )
Panels-->, ive seen much worse panels in simulations
:D
Reality --> its a simulation, dont forget it!!, and its a game too (please dont comparate with quake anyway)
Flying --> You can choose how to fly
if you wanna fly like real, take a plane, climb 25k, and search around for your prey, scanning sky for long minutes, avoiding furball, find an enemy and attack him only for one or two passes, then disengage and go home; and be ready to have no kill most of time. This is real flying, but its so tedious for almost everyone  , so you have to find your compromise with real life and your simlife :)
Dont care of HT making money if you can have a good time flying;oh i know, 30$, could be less,,ecc ecc... we just discussed of it more and more, but this is a personal choice, if u like it u fly it otherwise u can go .......
You thinl IL2 will be the best, i hope so, but i think that a good sim must be good under many aspects, not only graphic, or panels or whatsoever, is the mix that counts, and precedent experiences and enthusiasms are gone so bad.....see WWIIOL
:D

Heey who told you that there are no BIG formations in MA! I have screenshots :D Problem is that big formations atract even bigger formations of fighters :) And although I enjoy killing several Ta152s during one sortie in my Lancaster I still prefer to perform smaller scale bombing raids. And one final statement: NO Im NOT affraid of Il-2! It looks nice and maybe it will be a fun to fly for a limited period of time but I think that this is gonna be it! :p

From you're post I take it you're at least partially deaf and probably legally blind. (I was nice and left out the obvious symptoms of being 'dumb')
Have you ever tried Zaxxon or Crimson Skies? I think that's the kind of action and ear/eye candy you're looking for.

Steve there was sound in gun camera. Camera's had sound recording ability in ww2 the same for gun camera. If you watched some documentaries, you would know.
Well... I don't know about that one... the documentaries you refer to often have sound dubbed in (much the same way background music is added to movies). I seriously doubt engineers would have intentionally designed guncams that would be heavier (intrinsic with adding sound ability) just so the analysts could hear what was happening.
Ever notice on the documentaries that P-51's sound like P-47's sound like Me109's sound like... ;)

LOL, this had to be a troll, nobody could be such a jerk if they weren't trying.
Guncams didnt have sound that I have ever heard of. I watch alot of documentaries, and I have the video of gun cam footage. What can be heard in some documentaries is sound added for effect when played on tv. This isnt the real sound. duh.

Undeveloped literary skills? From posting in a forum? I probably read more books than you can count.
I wrote this story and entered it in Luftwaffe Writers contest for Classic Publicataions. See if my literary skills are undeveloped now. What yall don't know is when IL-2 is succesfull Oleg might turn it into a MP sim. People close to Oleg have told me this, true or not if it does happen this game will realy do down in flames. :)

The Coldest Winter
The story of a young pilot’s loyalty to his country and the love for his family
December 1944, Ardennes Region on French-German border
What a time to enter a war. It feels like the coldest winter yet, ever since I could remember. I’m about to throw myself at the huge might of the American. I know the war will be over soon and I wonder if I will end it alive. I just turned eighteen a few days ago on November twenty-fifth and had my choice of joining the infantry or the air force. I remember my father telling me the horror and abomination he experienced when he fought in the army in the First World War. I believed him because he was missing several fingers and half of his left leg. Berlin, my city has been bombed many times since 1943. Several of my friends and relatives died from the bombing but still we pressed on. I feel that with every American plane I shoot down I will save my city and my country from their destruction. I signed up with the German air force as soon as possible on December first. I heard that Hitler has been planning a last great offensive for the sixteenth of December 1944. I wonder if it can stop the allies from entering Germany. New pilots like me are in a deplorable position. There is not enough fuel for training and if I do go up to train, the ever present American lurking around the skies will kill me. I was placed in the 1st Squadron, 2nd Group of Fighter Wing 26. There are nine pilots in a squadron and seven of us were new trainees.
The other six trainees were products of the Hitler Youth Group and were quite mad. The two leaders of the squadron were old experts at the trade and I listened to every word they told us. I do not want to die young. I want to see my family again; I plan to create my own family after the war. That of course if I don’t get killed or my future bride does not also. My first flights are going well. Our squadron moved to a remote sector of the front so we can train with less danger. I now have about forty hour’s flying time in an old Messerschmitt 109 fighter. Some of the expert pilots were getting the brand new jets to fly! I’m stuck with this old piece of crap. Oh well it can still fly and the two experts were using them with deadly precision. The December sixteenth deadline is quite near and I’m nervous. Will I survive my first mission or sent on my final flight of oblivion? The odds are against me but I still will fight for my country.
The weather is worse today than usual so flying is even more difficult. Our 109’s are loaded with 500kg bombs. Our mission is to clear the opposition in front of the German army in order to allow a clean penetration of the allied lines. We must locate the 99th Infantry Division and attempt to reduce their strength.
We must destroy at least sixty percent of the division in order for the penetration to proceed successfully. I climb in the cockpit and our flight is ready to go. Take off is a bit scary, some ice formed up on the runway and light snowfall did not help at all. I barely got off the ground and two of them crashed and exploded as they took off. Now there are seven of us and I think I’m next. We’re now over the front and I can barely see the American division below and to my left. I put my plane in a dive and the seven of us start to descend. The anti-aircraft-fire opens up and another one is down. I’m thinking I’m next, I’m next, I’m going to die! The ground is rushing towards me and I see the Americans running all over for cover. I soon feel a warm sensation in my pants. I’m so nervous and I’m drenched in sweat. After I drop the bombs I feel relived. I have done my job and survived. I look behind me and see the bombs exploding on the Americans. One of the fools, Alfred flies too low and gets caught in the bomb blast. His wings fell apart and he didn’t have time to bail out. Hans warned us about this and told us not to fly low when we bomb. Six left. Two good things, there are no allied planes YET and the two aces are still alive. Hans and Gunther are their names and I’m very fond of them. Had it not been for their teachings and advice I might as well be dead. We head back early and our job for the day is done. I feel proud that I helped the army in beating back the Americans. It’s about ten a.m. now and I’m very tired. I decide that I can sleep a few hours and fly another mission in the afternoon.
The alarm signal goes off, “American fighters approaching in five minutes” blaring on the loud speaker as I scramble to my aircraft, which is being refueled at the time. The fuel truck pulls away too fast, breaking the hose and leaving it stuck in my plane. The driver of the truck goes mad and wheedles the machine, which is leaking, leaking gas all over the place, the runway, the tarmac and most everywhere over the air field! The buzz of the American planes draws nearer and I have to make a quick decision. Try to yank out the hose, jump in my plane and attempt to defend the field in vain, or run away and live another day. I look up and see bombs falling towards my head. I can see the American bomber formation way up there. I decide its best to run and seek cover. As I start to run away the fighters are shooting the field and at my machine. The plane sets ablaze and a huge explosion is followed. My plane and that of the American are engulfed in a whooping tower of flames and debris. I instinctively dive for the ground and roll behind a staff car for cover. I hear a great roar and I’m wondering what the hell it is. I quickly poke my head above the trunk of the car and see a crashed American plane heading towards me. What’s better is that its guns start to fire probably by accident because the pilot had to be dead. I see the keys in the car and the instincts kick in. I fling open the door, start the car and speed out of there before the flaming wreck heads to where I was just hiding. I’m in a state of disbelief now and I continue to drive away as bombs reign down on the base. I’m grateful to God that I’m alive and getting out of here. I think I’m safe but I realize I’m causing myself even more danger. The dark gray car in the clear white snow, leaving tracks behind me is a prime target for an American. I quickly comprehend this but I’m too late. Bullets strike the back of the car and set it ablaze. DAMN! I’m on fire! I open the door, jump out without even thinking and roll over on the wet snow. A great explosion occurs as I lie face down in the snow. I’m stunned and try to struggle to my feet but can’t. I feel pressure on my back, like somebody has dropped a 100-ton weight on me. I’m sure it’s a piece of metal either from aircraft or some other thing I do not know, but I do know I’m in excruciating pain. I use all my strength to try to pull myself up and free my self from the crushing weight. It’s finally off and I drop on my back exhausted and out of breath. Thank God that my legs are not crushed. I lay down on my back and the pain seems to go away. I’m not on fire anymore and all my limbs are intact. Good, I have heard that you don’t realize your missing limbs until shock diminishes. My father didn’t realize he had lost half of his leg until he tried to get up and walk. I lie down and I feel very cold. I don’t know how, I was still hot from the fire and I had 2 layers of wool on. I see a pool of blood saturating the snow that I’m lying down on and yet I’m not alarmed. I can feel nothing expect the gusty wind biting at my face, which does not stay with me for long. I suddenly feel warmth all over my body look up and see the bright sun above me. The weather must have cleared for a few seconds. I’m overcome with happiness for some reason I have no reason to understand why. Everything seems to be moving so slowly. The bombs that normally fall down very fast, I can almost count each one and see each bomb hit the ground. I feel very strange like something is leaving me.
I’m I dying? I’m I ascending into heaven? I turn my head and see the base on fire, I see explosions and men dying all around me yet I hear nothing. Did the war stop? I see men dying over and over, machines being mauled and I can’t weigh what’s happening. I can’t hear anything. Still men die but I cannot hear their pain. I’m dying? I keep asking myself. I look back up at the great blue sky and see the gentle, beautiful snowflakes ascending down on me. I try to catch them but I can’t seem to make my right arm move and my left arm is clutching something. What is this? I move it towards my face, open my hand and see it’s a picture of my family. I had put it in my pocket before the flight and must have grabbed in the haste to find safety. I look at it and smile and start to think of my childhood and all the good memories of my life.
Death and destruction seem so far away, but it’s all to close. I’m not thinking about it tough, I’m looking at my family. I can now hear the faint screams of men dying in the distance and it’s getting louder and louder. I clutch the picture in my left hand and try not to hear the men dying. I’m startled by the sound of a plane flying overhead. I look back at the base and the screaming is louder still. A gas truck explodes sending a jolt through the ground and into my body. I see Han’s plane on fire as he slowly spirals towards the ground while being shot at. I’m thrust back into reality and I start to panic. My blood is all over the place but I can’t move. There are at least four ambulances on the base but I cannot see them. The few medics that we did have at the base are probably hiding. Two of the trucks emerge from the shelter with the departing of the Americans.
I signal to the medics with my left arm by waving it in the air. I’m so cold now I start to shiver. I decide I want to die right now. I have seen enough war in the short time that I have been in it. I hear the approaching sirens and I must act now. I reach for my sidearm in left pocket strap. I hold the pistol to my head and pull the trigger. Click - the gun does not fire. It’s jammed or something is wrong with it. I quickly try to fix it but this is hard with one hand. I then feel a strong kick in my right hand and the gun goes flying into the air. The medics have arrived and start to treat me. I try to refuse by my chard cloths and bloody body makes their actions justifiable. They inject a needle in my leg and I feel a warm calm sensation. Something like a cigarette but stronger. I suspect morphine. I’m in the ambulance now and feeling calm. I think what will happen to me in the next few days and years. I will probably end the war alive or dead. But not in a bloody fight to the end, not in triumph and tragedy but in a pathetic hospital bed. The medic glances at at my left hand that is tightly holding something. He takes the picture out of my hand and holds it up for me to see. I start to cry and realize that I almost killed myself and they wouldn’t see me again.

Why do you think I stayed in AH ? Because I prefer it.
Why do you think I was out ? Real life and 30$ being quite a lot in my part of the world.
Why do you think I came back ? For the rumble and still best online sim.
Does 109 outturn a Spit ? Not really.
Does 190 outturn a Spit ? At high speeds. Do I have a problem with it ? No.

I read the story, and I can tell you that you won't come within a thousand miles of placing. It's boring. It's stylistically crappy and dull, grammatically barely sufficient, and generally not in the least bit entertaining to read. I get the impression that it was edited but not polished, based on your simplistic and in many places incorrect sentence structure. The subject wanders all over the place from sentence to sentence, and could you at least have taken the time to break paragraphs, for crying out loud?

Ahh its always refreshing to find someone intellectually inferior - especially by such a great margin.
First a nice contradiction: Everybody Flies the same planes: you then go on to list 6 different aircraft. Hmmmmm?
Then the register numbers? Where did you see these? My guess is 1500. How did I guess that? Rankings. Some of those 1500 will be two-weekers like yourself. 1500 x $30 = $45000. Less premises rent, less internet traffic bills, power bills, costs of hardware (server upgrades), software costs, development costs, 6+ staff will eat a large portion of that. Doesn't sound like Hi Profits to me?
Last release we had more than fixes. Next release will be more than fixes too (trains etc). AH is an ongoing development.
If you're such a genius, go write your own Sim, come back and let us know when you're done.

So as I know how it feels to jump out of a plane, open my chute, and float to the ground under my chute. I know it is not like the real thing in AH, so I will never again play AH because it is not real enough.

I am not claiming to know all the facts, but try to imagine what a microphone would pick up if it were with the camera. Incredible wind noise, engine roaring noise, and gun firing noise. Not much to listen to.
I still find it hard to believe there are gun cam sound recordings. Most recordings I have heard have been just radio and intercom conversations.
Maybe they exist, but I have never heard them. One thing I can honestly claim, I have fired both a 50 cal and 20mm weapon.

Ever notice on the documentaries that P-51's sound like P-47's sound like Me109's sound like... ;)
Sorry, Kieran, but you screwed the pooch on this one. The PR guys rigged several late war aircraft for color footage and sound. I have a few excellent cams of 109 shedding wings under the impact of .50's from inside of 50ft. Check out "Wings Over Europe" sometime.
Sorry, Dago. It is possible to shield mics from the wind. I never heard of the japanese caring about such things, but even the Germans and Tommies made PR footage. In the case of them, though, it was mostly attacks on buffs. Some German footage made from the 87 Junkers still exists. Wish I had one.
We have an A&P at work that has been working since '53. I'll ask him tomorrow about the F4U (which he did work on), but I believe another man I know had once told me the P-38 always had mic pickups after the F model. It's not my favorite aircraft, so I don't remember exactly, but I'll hunt him down sometime and ask.

Had to put this one up again, so I could chuckle some more.
IL-2 will make all sims obsolete. And thats that.
Insert any sim you like in the place of "IL-2" and you have the phrase used for the last 20 years by disgruntled players. Even less than a couple of months ago you'd see WWIIOnline instead.
I'll be buying IL2 and have high hopes for it, but you're in a dreamworld which IL2 cannot possibly live up to.

If you go read the IL2 boards, or any board of any upcomming game for that matter, you will see flock mentality in action.
These people are sheep, and they believe that these new producers just out of the woodworks are somehow going to bring them something that they have for some reason firmly convinced themselves is the perfect game/simulation.
Got news for ya: There is no such thing, you can keep looking, you can keep lying to yourself, you can keep accepting what you've been fed, but in the end it all comes down to one thing: HiTech, Pyro and company have been around since '93/'94 producing a quality product. What makes you think these, as of yet, unproven programmers/developers are somehow so much better?
I know who the real sucker is, and his name begins with a p, and ends with a 109.
-SW

Pdog,
IT is a bit risky to compare a Cesna with any of the WWII fighters. The Cesna was designed and built to be a very stable aircraft, while fighters are designed to be unstable so they can do the amazing things they do, secondly it would be near impossible to sell a game that has a full motion base so it can come as close as possible to the real thing, we can't use the seat of our pants for that extra input on the state of our aircraft.
I know for fact our squad has had well over a dozen B-17's up at one time on missions that our squadies have mapped out with fighter escorts. Can you expect to see wave after wave of bombers in bound to Regensberg here, not likely, can you expect to have fun with whats available? Thats up to each player, seems you aren't happy with this, so be it, but most of us that have hung on and spent the time to try a learn the game are having plenty of fun.
As for cost, well a buck a day for entertainment is well ahead of most other things you can get involved with. Can we expect HTC to hire six folks, rent a building, buy or lease servers, routers and a host computer for much less? Not to mention the time logged in the continueous software updates and research they have done and then expect them to work for peanuts.
Their job is one that is knowledge base driven, and given the small staff they have they have done an outstanding job.
We would all love to go to Florida and fly MadMax or Crazy Horse and come back from a position of authority ( 1 Flight ) and tell HTC how screwed up the P-51 is, just think of all the 109's and 190's you could fly against and then drop that data off at grapevine Texas and get them on the right track. So with that understanding you can play Aces HIgh as it is and learn how to fly this P-51 ( or any other plane in the set ) against the 109 / 190 thats here or hope for time transport in the next week or two and then come back and report to all of us what you have learned, but be forwarned there your first death is permanent wouldn't we all just love to have HTC model that little piece of reality. Just think what fun that would be every on-line sim would be outta business well within a month of start up!

ohhh, hope they don't publish that abomination!!!.
Only thing I agree with is the N1k2-J thingie. Could'nt accelerate the way it does in AH but thats to be fixed anyway.
Am currently undergoing training for my commercial pilots licence in Australia and feel that while you don't get a RL feeling of flight, AH imo comes closest of all the many flight sims i've tried. In fact, kinda ruined my boxed flight sims now, can't play them cause they make me laugh.
And if you want more enemies, come join the rooks, can't take off these days without 20 bloody ac swooping down n doing nasty things to ya :D
BTW I wrote a book too
Nikki's in the Sunn
-------------------
The big plane went broom broom and pow pow. I turned my killa 202 towards it. My 202 went broooommmmmmmm. Then I saw it, it was a N1k2-j. Its gunns went faloop faloop, I fired my guns, they went pfffft, pffftt, the other plane dodged them. I dived, he dived, I dived again. His guns went faloop, faloop. My plane exploded in a ball of flames. I bailed out and he gave me a jaunty wave. I blew him a big sloppy kiss. He blew one back.
The End.

LOL ,, gun cameras with sound , that is too funny :) / I wonder where they mounted the mic ?
-
I spoke to my fellow employee that has been an A&P since 1953, and that worked on Corsairs (F4U-5's and F4U-7's) just before the jet age hit. He stated that the Corsiars he worked on had gun camera's only, but that when the brass ordered it they had a way to mount up to six camera's per aircraft and that sound was rigged via the gear bay. Unfortunately, he also said that there was never a cannon version of the Corsair! :D Obviously, he came along too late.
The man that I know of that worked on 38's is still working on 38's. I am waiting for our power plant expert to come down again when I will ask him to get in touch with this other man. He is working on the restorations team on the recovered 38's from Greenland, so if anyone knows where that is being done (NW Tennessee I believe) you can ask him yourself.
We have a man that was ground crew (crew chief) on B-17's in WWII, here locally. He told me that recorders in those days were too big to mount in smaller fighters, but that the bombers had them during PR missions (some of which did not come home).
Then, I was talking to another A&P in Miami that remembers his father showing him an audio recorder that had been mounted in a P-47. It had been designed be a British soldier, initially. It was considered too dangerous to be used in fighters early on, but saw frequent service in the later part of the war. It did not use tape, but recorded on a thin piece of wire. The implications are obvious there.
Still, whether they did or didn't doesn't matter concerning AH. P-51's never fought P-51's, but we do here because this is a game concerning ACM and not the recreation of WWII. There are, however, many gun camera segments out there with sound included. The reason I am convinced that this did happen is the use of distance fading with the audio track. Sure, Hollywood had the ability to do that, but why bother when the segment would (upon release) be heavily overwhelmed with narration?
I am going now, to set up a new website where I will post (at the risk of getting hit with a law suit) a short segment of the last minutes in a 109's life. The pilot, upon bailing, is ripped apart by gunfire from the trailing fighter. You can hear the gunfire, the *snap* of the wing, and the engine exploding as the block is ripped open.
If you look closely you can also make out the pilot losing his arm, leg, and then head in the gunstream (final frame). Why would anyone edit such a gruesome scene for sound?
I should have this uploaded by tonight.
-
hmm... lock this one up, not going anywhere.
-
I am definately interested in that movie clip. More for the effect of the rounds on the plane and to actually hear these sounds.
I do not want to see the pilot get chewed up. No matter whether Axis or Allied it's not a sight I'm interested in seeing.
