Title: ayoahooo ... collision model
Post by: lulu on March 25, 2011, 07:30:37 AM
Lag produces false collisions ... but in name of what rules sometimes i go down
and sometimes i survival in a collision !!!????

It's impossible to negate that there are some kinds of 'collision rules'.

Damn, I want to know them !!!

So that i can follow a more appropriate flight path.

All you need to know about collisions is this........ If you see a collision on your computer you have collided and will take damage. If you DO NOT see a collision, you won't. The other guy may shoot you as he collides or flies through you, but if you don' t see a collision you can't be damaged.

So, best rule of thumb, avoid colliding with people.

What if I look away right before we hit...  Will I survive...?

That page on Lag (http://trainers.hitechcreations.com/lag/lag.htm) should be required reading for everyone in here, IMHO.

Yes.  I always close my eyes when I am about to collide.  When I open them I am always still alive.  :D

so does this mean that if i close my eyes right before i collide with a tree, that i won't take damage?  :devil

Lulu if you collide on your computer you get damaged. If you collide on someone else's computer they get damaged. If you collide on both computers you both get damaged.

Even simpler... Quit hitting stuff....

I think the OP's question was not "Why does one player collide and the other doesn't?" but rather "Why does damage vary so much when you do collide?" In other words, not when collisions happen, but how damage is assessed from collisions. Both players hit the other guy's left wing with their left wing, one guy's wing gets torn off off, the other guy only loses his left landing gear - how was that result determined?

In this specific circumstance, the two players collided in different locations on the aircraft.  Each client computer assigns damage to his/her own plane based on the collision they have had happen on that computer.

Can the same thing be said when being shot at? For example, I was shooting at an LA7 the other day. Lit the guy from wingtip to wingtip, and nose to tail. Nothing broke off, save for an airleron and a few other control surfaces. A few seconds later, after I was done shooting, the plane explodes.

Is it related to how the collision model works, or is it entirely different?

Did you read the above mentioned link?  It's pretty straight forward. I can't be more clear than what was said there.

Correct, sounds like you got lucky and got a pilot kill causing the plane to explode.

With gunnery, it all happens on "your" end, what you see that you hit, is what gets hit. Then it sends packet to the other guy saying plazus just shot you,  hitting you x, y, and z with these guns, calculate damage.

Once he receives the packet and calculates the damage the parts fall off.
Which is why sometimes in a nose to nose pass you'll hear the pings after you pass.
If he's chasing you, remember, he's closer/further around the circle than he looks.
