After 10+ years here in the AH community, I think there is a new air combat simulation that will be getting the lion's share of my time now...DCS A-10C. Simply astouding graphics and gameplay. I'f you've got a low end, barely performing computer here...don't bother you'll be very disappointed. There is a HUGE learning curve as this game mimics everything the A-10 can do from radio communication to weapons delivery, to flight management, navigation....it's all there... a "wannabe CAS pilot's" dream. Even the air-air guys are thrilled with this sim. Total immersion in a relatively modern aircraft... I haven't checked out the multiplayer yet (I'm still learning to fly and fight the jet) so that aspect of it is yet to be explored.
See y'all around the unfriendly skies of the Balkan states (or wherever the theatre of operations may be)
Tim "not lettin the door hit him in the can as he exits" EDO, Clark. Thanks for the ride HTC, it's been great fun.

see you when the shine wears off

So it's an MMO with hundreds of real people to fly against, eh?
:rofl

This DCS A10 thing is something else. I am thinking of getting the Thrustmaster Warthog Hotas now.
-
Is the multiplayer interface better than flaming cliffs or do you still need falconlobby?
-
Something I find interesting. In comms 17 is said "seventeen" but 19 is said "ten nine." Why is that? Shouldnt it be "one seven" and "one niner" respectively?
-
I've been messing with it too...picked it up mainly for the stellar 3D graphics and to challenge my new 590 vid card. The tactics are quite different obviously and it is labor/mental intensive. No drinking with this sim (at least not for me).
-
Going to have to check this out ...

Meh I likes my planes like I likes me cars. OLD! I've always found that modern aircraft games never held my attention like a good old prop ride.
See ya when ya get back. :)

Here ya go HTC. If you want better arena behavior. Make the game more labor/mental intensive.
:lol

I'm not so sure I'm giving up AH yet, but Warthog is going to be a huge time sink for me. The only other game I can remember that has challanged me like this was F4: Allied Forces or any of the other numbers of " improved versions " of F4. There is so much that has to be learned in this game. Believe me when I say that flying the bird is the easy part. Learning all the systems, all the weapons , all the tactics needed AND keep something that feels like SA is the challange. HELL!! Starting the bird on the pad from a cold condition is just awsome :-) I can't just hit my pinky switch on my throttle to crank over the motor and be able to fly.
Graphics wise it's pretty nice too. The flight model is good. Can't say for sure how close it is since I have not flown a A-10 but it seems to be how I would imagine the bird to fly. Nav, Targeting, Weapons, Avionics, Comms, Defensive Suite are all modeled very well and Require that you take the time to learn to use them properly. The 659 page manual will get you up in running on all the systems. LOL
This is fun too me :-)
See ya in the Skys

Dred,
Maybe it is LOL engine management would be something that I would like to see added into AH.

If that's not a selling point.
:huh

Are you speaking about this?

I do miss games like Longbow 2 where you could go full realism and BE the gunner position having to switch through the FLIR and other systems to lock on to stuff... managing radar beam sweeps and the like.

So would I. but the Newbs would never be able to handle it.
Maybe if they tied it into AC performance like the stall limiter works. where you can toggle it on or off. Turned off. Your aircraft woud work within its safety limits all the time.
Turned on You would have more control and better performance. But you would also suffer from the risks of say, having the throttle firewalled all the time. And thus suffering engine damage.

Wolf, you used every last bit a that runway, lmbo. Was this flight before the patch came out? Nice flying & nice vid! :salute I subscribed to your channel so keep the vids coming pls.

Can't remember if it was pre or post patch. Not much would've changed the outcome.

BUT it does have an OLD aircraft in it...Operational deliveries to the USAF started in 1975/1976 and production ended in 1984 after 715 were built. Still that isn't bad for an aircraft that is so ugly its beautiful to have a 35 year run as an attack aircraft.

I prefer helicopters so I bought DCS - Black Shark instead since I fly them better than the Jug. A10 looks muuuucho better graphic wise but maybe i'll try it this summer. It still brands the name "thunderbolt" ...
