How often did you guys change your mind?
I wanted to be an architect, for a long time ( 4 years+ ), but ive gained a keen interest in international affairs. I think what going on in Japan and Lybia are very interesting, which makes me believe id like to work with the UN, or Nato, or just do something with with international issues. I'd like to know what im going to do with my future NOW, i just hope this is it.

I'm wondering whether to go into architecture or astronomy (either theoretical physics or NASA). My dream is to be the first man on Mars.

I always liked the medical field. Either a Family Physician, Virologist/ Microbiologist, or Thoracic Surgeon. But I could also take my microbiology to the KDFWR and work on wild animal diseases such as CWD, LGBV, and Rabies.
-
firs it was a fire fighter...then a carpenter. now its army or mechanic. probably both.
-
has always been a pilot--whether RCAF or commercial, not sure.

Soldier
Officer
Combat Pilot
Officer
Commercial Pilot
Engineer/English teacher (as in, move to Germany or Austria and become an English language teacher)

Always wanted to be a pilot, became a pilot, am a pilot, and will be a pilot.
-
Always wanted to be a pilot, so far I'm on the right track.
-
Wanted to be a pilot, got my private certificate.
Now i want to be a ATC...starting my BS in Air traffic management at Embry Riddle University in the fall.

I'm a student pilot with 55 hours, still pretty far from my commercial, but I'm not in a hurry. I love every minute of it.
-
I wanted to be a Police Officer when I was very young...
Then an Air Force Officer...
Then an Aerospace Engineer (went to college for this)
Then an AE in the Air Force, the opportunity faded away with the politics of post Gulf War 1.
Then I managed a high volume photo processing lab, very bizarre events brought me to this
Then I went into business for myself as a professional photographer, which is how I make my living today

Wow, you're just a baby pilot at 55 hours. There is definitely a "right track" for professional pilots. It will start with a quality 4 year college that offers a Professional Pilot program. Then after graduation, you will instruct and try to get as many multi engine cross country hours as possible. If you are lucky, you will get a job as a commuter airline pilot, which pays pretty poorly, but allows you to rack up large numbers of multi engine cross country hours until you can get picked up by one of the major airlines.
At least thats how it was 25 years ago when I was in AE school but most of my friends were Pro Pilot students. I doubt that it has changed much, it's probably even harder now. When I was in college, the pilot students were training to replace all of the Vietnam era pilots who were starting to hit their retirement age.

I wanted to be an astronaught I became spaced out.
-
I'm not old enough to go to a university, but I'd like to get an Aviation Science degree from Texas A&M
edit: I can get my freshman and sophomore classes knocked out at a Community College in SA.

They have this? I figured that you'd go for aeronautical engineering or something.
-
Combat Pilot
ATC
Golf Course designer
Teacher
College professor
Advertising management
Marketing/business
These are some that I can remember. As of right now, I'm majoring in History to become a U.S. History teacher at the high school I graduated from. Of course, I'm still taking core classes, so that is liable to change at any given moment.

One of my friends is going to Middle Tennessee State University to become a professional pilot. It's pretty much a "major" in some colleges like MTSU.
-
I wanted to be a pornstar but I got f***d

Kansas State (Salina campus) has a good 4 year pro pilot program as well.
-
I changed my mind exactly once.
I wanted to be a marine biologist when I was younger, but switched to fighter pilot around age 12.
Of course I had always wanted to be an astronaut and ensured that my schooling and job choice could be used as steps towards that goal (lots of computer, math, sciences classes), but I figured out pretty early it would never happen so I settled on being just a fighter pilot who was also a computer geek.

You know Embry-Riddle.....that's what it's for.
-
As a child my dream job was the driver of the machine that used to sweep the streets :D
Then when I grew up I realized that job wouldn't be too glorious. In the end I realized I didn't want a job - I wanted to be filthy rich and avoid the labor in reality.
Now I'm working hard to get there. Ironic.

According to my parents, I claimed I wanted to be Tim Conway until i was in first grade.

I never thought about that kinda stuff until maybe 15 years old at that point I realized I wanted to do Tattoo's because it is the only "living" art, and it was something nobody could take from me, started Tattooing at 18, hittin 42 this year still going strong :aok
-
wanted to fly fast jets for RAF from age 12 on. age 17 found out my colour blindness meant they wouldnt let me fly anything. dammit. :furious

As a very young boy, I dreamed of being an excavator driver...

My dad, a proud master carpenter at that time, almost went ballistic over this dream of a 5 year old :lol
Today he would be glad if I were one... :noid

Same here . I don't ever remember saying what I wanted to be . Still trying to figure this one out at 45 ..but I do remember saying I would be retired at 40 and I was ...

go to a professional truck driving school...several trucking companies have their own...you need a class a commercial driver's license, and although it's an honorable profession, i wouldn't recommend it if you have other choices.

I had a friend who dreamed of being a garbage man when he was little. He would help the city garbage collectors pickup trash and toss it into the garbage trucks for them. This same guy now pilots commercial airliners.

From the time I was old enough to talk and look at pictures of my father's youngest brother, and Air Force Colonel turned commercial pilot.... it was only ever one thing...

Same here. Found out in 1992 I had failed my eye exam while trying to get into the Air Force Academy, after my second year of AFROTC in college. Oddly, I was already on an Air Force scholorship for 2 years, and had already passed the eye exam once. I looked to other branches of the armed forced but was told by Army, Navy, and Marines that the nature of the problem with my left eye (although technically I have perfect uncorrected vision) would eliminate me from flying anything, ever, for the US Gov't. I got out, and tried to figure out what to do with my life after losing the only dream I had ever really had. Ever.
I shouldn't have listened to them.
Within 5 years they were so short on pilots they were handing out waivers right and left. One of my best friends in college and AFROTC never really had any desires to fly, and wore glasses. He got a waiver in 1996 and went on to C-17's.

I never really worried about it until I was probably around 16 or so. Then, I decided the profession for me was a hermit.
20+ years later, still no success. I've had plenty of jobs in the meantime, but I still haven't reached my goal. My wife basically say's "No! Get your donut to work" and that's that...
-
I always wanted to be a trash collector...because they got to ride on the back of the truck.
-

In many ways he ended up picking up garbage anyway, white trash etc. :rock

Well there's your problem! A proper hermit doesn't have a wife! You've gotta get rid of her so you can realize your dream!
-
I don't want to join the air force
I don't want to go to war
I'd rather hang around Piccadilly Underground
Living on the earnings of a high class lady...
The rest of the song detailing exactly how this worked out violates a couple of forum rules, but the entire process apparently took exactly one week...

In second grade (1967) I remember a college student doing a study on children's future job aspirations comming in to talk to us and asking us all what we wanted to be and remember telling her I wanted to be an astronaut.
By 9th grade that changed to wanting to be in radio, which I did for many many years.
Lucky for me. I'm horribly afraid of heights.

If I remember, I wanted to be an artist first and took some lessons. Got bored and wanted to become a writer. Didn't finish anything I started and wanted to become a Hockey player. Played 8 years and got bored and quit. Wanted to do a bunch of random jobs from working with computers, to working on an assembly line. Quickly got bored and thought about joining the military. Never did. Now I write Anime and plan on starting a band. ;) :rock

Not sure how. I just woke up one morning and decided I didn't want to play anymore. I still watch it though.

Long haul truck driver, then lawyer, due to twists and turns of life I was employeed in various job titles at General Dynamics for a long time laid off, concurrently I was a bouncer, then a DJ, did a two year stint subcontracting with Philip Morris, went to work in the telco pole industry, moved over to light poles. Now I'm a designer, project manager, IT, CAD specialist, and all around doo doo boy where I work. I don't look forward to being here daily but it pays the bills and for my toys.

I wanted to be a fighter pilot since I can remember. I had Lasik surgery at 20, that killed my flying dream. So I went ahead and join the Army to be an Armor Officer. I figured it's the next best thing to flying a fighter plane is to command tanks in combat. After OBC I got sent to a CAV unit and deployed as scout platoon leader. Love the job and the Soldiers, but it wasn't the path I wanted, though I wouldn't change it if I have another chance. Next goal is to get out of the military and persue flying in the civilian sector. =)
