Title: Math Gurus
Post by: Killer91 on March 28, 2011, 09:41:03 PM
I'm in college trig this year WOOT!!! It's not as bad as I thought it would be and I've actually found it to be quite fun and I'm fairly confident I've got this down but anyone wanna check me?

The black one is the original graph and the blue one is the new graph. The stuff at the top is abbraviated but it says:

y=2sin (4/3x+2╥/3) -1          amplitude = 2      period = 9╥/6     vertical translation = -1     phase shift = -3╥/6

Taking Calc 2 this semester and then 3/4 next year. JUST to transfer to Cal Poly. Thank god math is easy, lol.

Wish I could help more but I skipped trig and went to AP calc...so I'm not sure how much weight you should put into my verifying of your answers.

assuming the form Asin(wx+c) -d ...

Looks right to me....  amplitude = 2, yep.  period 2pi/w. 2pi/(4/3) = 3pi/2, vertical translation, yeah.  phase change,  (2pi/3/(4/3)=pi/2... so looks good to me, just simplify fractions.

Let's just hope that he doesn't end up like Galwa, dead in the street at age 22.  Galwa could have advanced mathematics at least a century if he'd chickened out of that duel.

Love the story, hate how it was written. Just because he has AS doesn't mean he's autistic.  :mad:  :bhead

what is the question exactly?

I thought he was just asking if his amplitude, phase shift, period, etc were correct based on the function given?

lol He may be too young to get that. :)

I can't remember any of my Trig or Calc from college after 20 years of not using either one.  I loved that stuff too.
