Title: Storm Photography

had a few severe storms roll through here last week.. with a few reported funnel clouds..
I have been into storm photography and chasing for a while now, but just got myself a DSLR and am finally able to take some quality photos.  I oopsed and did not crank the quality settings up on these, but they turned out pretty well I think...
got a funnel cloud, a bit of hail, and a fantastic photo of the cell after it passed.  Seeing the lone cell like this is pretty rare here in cincinnati, usually cells are pretty embedded.

Any advice on photos is very appreciated, as the DSLR is pretty new to me, and I am just learning about how to utilize it!

Last year, I went out to west Texas to go do some farm work with a buddy of mine and his girlfriend and their families. When we got there, that night, there was some static thunder and the dad sat there and just started taking pictures of the clouds saying "I'm waiting for thunder so I can take a picture of it."  :O

Every time I see pictures of storms thats the first thing that always comes to my mind  :lol

Great pictures!!

I love taking pictures of storms and I bought a DSLR last year for this reason. Here's a few of mine but these were actally taken with a Kodak point and shoot before I had my DSLR..


The date is wrong on this one.. It was actually 1/5/2010.

9/14/10. Storms built over Gainsville (which is one county east of me) and remained pretty much stationary till they rained out.

For great storm cloud photos you should try using infrared film.  Or adapt a cheap DSLR to infrared.


Short of using infrared get Photoshop or Photomatix and learn how to do HDR merges, that would bring out a lot more dymanic range and contrast in stormclouds.

Paint Shop Pro also does HDR merges. Less $$$$$


Lol these pics made me want to go outside and shoot a pic..... not a cloud in the sky.

Nice edits! Really brought out the colours with them.

As a side note, your B-25C skin ingame (assuming you're the right Dutchguy?) is
among my favorites  :D

The Midwest holds some of the most beautiful, but violent, storms in the world. If any of you guys get a chance, try taking a picture of a lightning storm in the middle of a desert. That would make a great picture. Just be careful!

Very nice!! I have some software that came with my DSLR camera but I haven't put the pictures through it yet lol
