Title: Interesting ME-262
Post by: Seanaldinho on March 30, 2011, 05:30:45 PM: I recently visited the Naval Air Museum in Pensacola near where i live. They had just opened a new wing and as a regular of the museum i decided to stop by. When i entered the new wing there was a ME-262 sitting in the front. Upon further inspection i noticed something wierd about it...
It had 2 seats. I read the background on the plane and it was a fully restored ME-262 trainer jet for the Luftwaffe.

I found this really quite cool and thought i would share it

It was a night fighter with radar antenna that was delivered to 10./NJG 11 and was captured by the British at Schleswig-jagel. Red 9 initial had the code USA 2. It was picked up by Watson's Wizards and given the code 999 and the name Ole Fruit Cake. It arrived in the USA in July 1945 and placed on display in Washington DC (where the photo was taken). It was scrapped at Cornell University in the 1950s.

White 35 is a Me262 B-1a, WNr 110639. Its Watson's Wizard code was 555 and nick named Willy (original name Vers) after the German test pilot Ludwig 'Willie' Hoffman. It arrived in the USA on July 26 1945. It went to Paxtuxent River with the BuAer No 121448. It was captured at Lechfeld and was possibly and a/c of III./EJG 2.

Post by: alpini13 on April 01, 2011, 01:35:41 PM: LOL well it finally happened, the aircraft in question was an ARMED trainer,yes with guns,there is only one left.it had sat out in a field at willow grove PA for years and i used to play on it as a child, it was then restored,spent some time at other facilities while a special bldg was built for it in willow grove pa. it then came back to willow grove for qiute some time. if you look closely at the tail assy area you will see bullet hole repairs from combat. during the original saving restoration process by the bucks county preservation society, it was discoverd that this aircraft had several wooden pieces such as gear door covers and a bulkhead in the nose that were made of an advanced wooden lamination process, regular plywood took their place but the remnants were saved and displayed in willowgrove pa.. this was not a two seat nightfighter...it was a trainer...with guns...that saw combat, very cool.
