I was looking at the common terms page on AHWiki, I felt like those terms were for some other game, never heard anyone use them before. Who comes up with them?
http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/wiki/index.php/Common_terms (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/wiki/index.php/Common_terms)
example:
box - bomber formation
bus - C-47 "Dakota" Transport
dorka - Fw 190D-9
form - join a formation
fort - B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bomber
<G> - grin
ga - Go Ahead
hail - hello
Hizooka - Hispano 20mm cannon
ib - inbound
ect....
Where did these terms come from? :headscratch:
That page is made for people who are new to AH and want to learn AH terminology. Why make them learn all the BS that no one ever uses?
-
they come from lazy illiterate people

box - bomber formation probably comes from the imaginary shape of the bomber group
bus - C-47 "Dakota" Transport is called 'bus' because it carries troops like a bus does on the ground
dorka - Fw 190D-9 is most commonly called 'dora' and someone didn't like their fighting style apparently. Dorka = idiot
form - join a formation - common term of speech to 'form up'
fort - B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bomber - just short for fortress
<G> - grin - self explanatory, short for grin
ga - Go Ahead - shortened version
hail - hello - could be star trek reference 'hailing all frequencies' or badly spelled nazi reference 'heil'
Hizooka - Hispano 20mm cannon - common way to describe the flat trajectory and large hitting power of the hispano in game
ib - inbound - shortened

I understand that, but my point is that I been here for 6 years and never seen anyone use them.
-
I use "ib" quite often. I see other players use it as well.
"Lancs ib to CV90"
"I'm ib with ord for VH"
-
I've used 'bus' for C-47 but I think goon is far more common.

whilst we are discussing this can we clear up the definitive definitions of;

Ive seen many of them used. Then again, I haven't seen even half of the players let alone see or hear them talk online. Different people have different habits.

The others have been answered, but that one is when people incorrectly abbreviate etcetera or et cetera. :) It should be "etc."

Seems pretty straightforward to me...
Vulch-When someone shoots me on the runway or having just lifted.
bounce-When I shoot someone on the runway or having just lifted.
bnz-When I dive in from above and shoot someone down who's engaged with another friendly.
Pick-When someone dives in from above and shoots me down when I'm engaged with another enemy.
Cherry-Sort of an amalgamation of a vulch and a pick.
timid-When people run away from my slower plane. When I run away from other peoples' slower planes, it is flying smart.
gang-What happens when I dive into a crowd of bandits and get under them.
horde-A large group of enemy planes. A large group of friendly planes is called a 'mission'.
HO-A shot taken from in front of the 3 o'clock-9 o'clock angle on the aircraft where I get shot down.
front quarter-A shot taken from in front of the 3 o'clock-9 o'clock angle on the aircraft where I shoot down the enemy.
haxxor-A person who did something I don't understand in their aircraft.
hypocrite-...Nah. Someone'll take it personal no matter what I say. :)
Wiley.

Vulch = Shooting down a plane either taking off or landing
Bounce = Attacking an unsuspecting bandit
BnZ = Boom and Zoom, one of many Energy fighting tactics
Pick = Short for "Cherry Pick" and it's attacking a bandit that is engaged in a fight with someone else
Cherry = See "Pick"
Timid = Players that don't like to fight
Gang = Being attacked by a large group of bandits
Horde = A large group
HO = Head on shot...when both planes both have a firing solution on each other. If one plane does not have a firing solution, it is not a "head on".
Front Quarter = Engaging a bandit from the front 3-9 position, a Lead Turn is an example of such maneuver leading to a front quarter shot
Those have been the definitions for those terms since the days of Air Warrior.
