I really wish you'd give that poor plane a wash (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

I'm not so hot either with the P47D having this painting, I don't care for whatever cowling color the P47 has, but I don't really like the 'stripe extending beyond the cowling'.
I was always secretly mad to see 'Big bellybutton Bird II' because of his paint job hehehe, a so beautifull airplane... snif... barbarians!
Anyway, we have a P47D and this is awsome. I'm being picky because I love the Jug but this should not overshadow the great job and surprise that HTC did to us.

Pigs planes need to be muddy!
Anyhow, it's true, we should be happy we have a P-47D, even if it's in not the greatest color scheme.
The Pony and the Jug could be stunners, like the Lightning is, with cool paint schemes.

Well, first off let me say that the credit for the artwork on the P47 goes to Natedog's talents. Pyro decided he wanted a generic P47 paint scheme on it, so thats what you've got. Also, look at the markings, and it tells you who's plane it is. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif) I'm sure if you guys bug Pyro enough, he'll put a historical scheme to it. You know how he loves whining. Natedog,
I for one love the paint job and art work you did on the Jug, thanks. However I think it would be better with a historical paint scheme.
Personnally I think if your going to do a Jug in a historical paint scheme, it has to be the 56 FG's.

YEs hehehe and I recall Pyro telling :' The 56th will not be left over' (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif) (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif) (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
I just hope this P47 will jave a new paint scheme rather than an another P47 version like the one without the 360 view canopy.
Where can I know what I can by for who for HTC staff? Is there a manual on how to bride HTC staff? (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

How is Big bellybutton Bird II so much better looking? They practically have the same paint schemes except for the color. It came down between that paint job and this one and we thought this to be the better one for a variety of reasons.
Part of selecting paint schemes is using some foresight into what other variants of that plane will be added later and what paint schemes they'll use. We want to try and keep some distinctiveness between the paint schemes of variants. Also, keep in mind that this is a very late model P-47, so it will be hard to find much outside of the 9th AF, but that's great with me. Fits together better in the big picture.
There are no plans to change the paint scheme, but adding invasion stripes could be done.
To answer the original question, the paint scheme is from the 397th FS, nicknamed "Jabo Angels", of the 368th FG, 9th AF. The 368th FG flew their first mission on March 14, 1944. They were the first group to land on Normandy on June 13, and the first group to be stationed on the continent on Jun 19, 1944.
In the 14 months that the 368th operated, they flew over 1400 missions totalling almost 17,500 sorties and over 45,000 combat hours. They fired over 4.5 million rounds of ammunition and dropped almost 11 million pounds of ordnance. They were credited for 120 air victories, 20 probables, and 59 damaged plus a further 98 ground victories, 15 probables, and 125 damaged. They accounted for 1101 armored vehicles, 10,801 trucks, 913 locomotives, 7477 freight cars, 79 bridges, 1040 factories or buildings, 246 gun positions, 96 supply dumps, and 146 vessels destroyed or damaged. They attacked 50 airfields, 260 railway yards, and made 475 rail cuts. They did this all with combat losses of only 69 P-47s plus an additional 31 damaged beyond repair.
There may not have been a lot of glamour in the job they had to do, but they kicked ass.

Pyro, it was irony, i hate Big bellybutton Bird II. I can take more or less whatever camo you want but I deeply hate the 'stripe who extend and ends as a spike'. I'm sorry, I don't know enought english words on how to describe this.
If it had a blue nose only, I wouldn't mind. The 'spike' makes me think to those civilian vintage aircrafts of the 30's.
I'm sorry to be picky, but the P47 is one of my fav plane and I'm a bit sad because of this paint job. no offense to your choice or taste, I just don't share it on this particualr model. If it's one of the last variants, it's maybe the most performant, then the one people will fly the most (at least me), so appreciating the paint job is important I believe.
Anyway, thank for answering to my request Pyro, Salute HTC (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Pyro, Natedog, Superfly,,
Thanks! About all I can say. Thanks again for all the efforts your team has put into the game and especailly the P47. I think this is the first Online Sim to show the P47s true colors. Keep up the good work and watch for a future Post by me on a website dedicated to POSSIBLE future Skins for the P47C, N and M. Been doing a lot of research on this, just missing one BOOK to finish up before I build the website. I am looking for "THUNDERBOLT, The Republic P-47 Thunderbolt in the European Theater" by Squadron/signal" anybody know were I can get a copy??
Thanks..

Pyro,
Thanks for the info, with what Superfly said I mistakenly got the impression this was not a historical paint job, thanks for setting the record straight.

I think you guys are doing a great job. The P47 looks and functions great. The Zero looks great and although it's slow and soft it's what I would expect and I have had a B26 shot out from under me by a Zero and was impressed. I flew the zero and thought you did a great job on the panel and exteriors.
I flew the jug and was pleasently surprised and the beautiful rendering of the interior and the whole package, paint scheme, flight model and load out. This latest release has shown the dedication and hard work you have put into this sim.
I first flew the jug before the fixed the bugs and liked it then. Last night, I got a chance to come in late and test it a little more and was very satisfied.
What really sold me on it was my downing of a B26 and another fighter. After the second air victory, I commented, to a friend "The jug rocks" to which I drew comments like "The jug sux!" and "It's a dweeb runner like the Stang!"
Those last two comments confirmed in my mind that you guys had put out a classey airplane.

But that isn't a D-30, notice there is no fin infront of the vertical stab that was added to 'restore' directional stability because of the reduction in keel area.

I was wondering if N8 D was Nate playing the brit wing commander trick with the jug..
looks nice guys..

Nath, fins were added in the field and the 56th also had D-30's in the same paintscheme.

Dune, this one is awsome (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif) (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif) Pyro (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif) (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
I like it as much as my gabby's.
Daff hehehe great, bring it in, I will pay for having it in the game instead of current one hehehe. Jug is nice too because squad nose arts are BIG.
But I secretly think that Pyro wants to keep a P47 of the 56th for an another version. I hope it will be a P47 with the fully visibility canopy. It may look akward, but I'm inloe with the shape of the full visibility canopy P47's but not so hot with the P47C models, go figure.

One-pass kills on B26's sell me every time. You line stuff up and 8 x .50's do the rest. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif) And you bet, with glatial turn rate, I'll extend every time!
I really don't care if it is pink with "Mary Kay" written on the tail, I don't plan to wax the thing. All I care is if a plane is fun to fly or not. Seriously guys, think of it this way... when we start doing the iconless thing again, imagine this; anything silver is baaaaaaaad. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

I like the scheme of the Jug we have (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
The blue "streak" is very reminiscent of the decorations on the 1930's racing aircraft and a common nickename for these later P-47 models was the "Superbolt"
Mid 44 on up they had some wild bellybutton paint schemes on those Thunderbolts. I wonder if it's a reflection of the Allied pilot confidence and high moral due to the tide of the war having swung around completely in thier favour.

Speaking as a confirmed Jug fan...
I love this paint scheme. It looks really good, and it represents a group that kicked some serious butt. Nice to see something a bit different, the "not so glamorous" side of the air war getting a bit of recognition.
Damn nice plane. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) I'm a happy Lephturn!

Heya Gorf, we used that book to select this paint scheme. You should be able to find it at a hobby store.
Frenchy, sorry didn't read your post right. Big bellybutton Bird is still a lot better than Tarheel Hal IMO.
As to some of the late 56th paint jobs, you'll have to wait for an M model.

I have to say I like the paint we have now.
The last year or two of the war the edict of US Air Forces was to lure the LW into fights. No more camo pain jobs, the buffs and fighters were nice and silver and painted gleefully so the LW could find them and be bled dry in the process.
