Title: Noob question: DA vs MA?
Post by: Warty on April 03, 2011, 09:56:40 AM
I'm sure this has been hashed over a zillion times before, but how do people view these 2 arenas? Do some people only fly in one or the other? Does one have better flyers? Different kinds of flyers?

I only found the dueling arena about a week ago, I thought it was some kind of personal vengeance arena. As far as I can tell, it's a furball arena. Since I'm doing a lot of dying (<cough>, "learning), it's kind of nice to only have to fly a short distance to "learn". Boy, do they learn me good in there :)

DA is where you practice your pick avoidance techniques.

The DA is basically as you put it, a furballing arena. It's
where people can hop on, shoot a few planes down real
quick, and not have to worry about score or bases, etc.

It's also -the- place for duels. It's somewhat private, has
all airframes/GVs available (for free), and is easy to have
a 'fair terms' fight with somebody.

The MA holds a little bit more purpose, and has conflict
between three countries on multiple fronts (as opposed
to a central 'DA lake'). Large GV battles, carrier action,
bombers, furballs... All found in one (or two) arena(s).

Nice write up Eskimo.

Very accurate, except for the part about "large" battles. Hard to have "large" battles in a capped/split arena.

(Unless you just want to wait your turn and drop into the pick-fest.)

I've found that Axis VS Allies and the early war arenas are good for dueling.......if you can find an opponent who doesn't log out when he finds his late war ride is not available.

The DA is quite steril in that the fight is a "known" factor at least on the private fields.
DA lake is where F3 view is abused and prefered.

Private duels with a single or multiple folks is good for teaching you technique, angles and throttle control.

The MA is where the "mystery" is. The "unknown" the "fog of war" if you will! The variables that you do not control. The suprises that show up out of nowhere that must be dealt with <-- this IMHO is the draw to the MA.

Having started in the MA(Mid-War), then nearly a year later went to DA. You should start in DA(IMO). You get a lot more practice, you get to fly more planes without having to earn perks, and short climb out times means killed or not, your up again & in the fight within a couple minuted vs 10-15 minutes.  :salute

DA = slaughter noobs for no gain.

MA = slaughter noobs for perk points.

I love the DA. Good group of people, relatively small, more personal. Most in there will give a great fight. More people willing to even sides up to keep it competitve. You get to try planes you normally dont see alot in the MA.
You really only get hoarded if you allow it yourself most nights. And its QUICK! Not alot of flying to a fight. Biggest turnoff from MAs other than seeing 50 red dots at a base, is the travel time.
