Title: Shift 2: Unleashed
Post by: Krupinski on April 04, 2011, 11:07:50 PM
Anyone get a chance to play it? I like it, it's as addictive as AH in my first few months playing.  :D

Here's a good film of me failing at brake/throttle control on the Nürburgring:

I ran the World Champ thing several times on 'easy' before setting it to 'medium'
..it takes awhile to build the skill to really rock thru a Championship
.. however, once you get a few wins you can go 'shopping' or mod one to the rafters
.. then look at the event schedule, take yer hot rod to a club event and just blow their doors off.
Do a single track that you like in the 'event' section
.. ie: the 'ring pays 99k points if you have a bit of skill and the car to smoke thru it.
(try a porsche boxter with dual turbo's ..just plain sweeeet there
.. I run mid-7 lap times from a standing start thru the field of other cars)

My son made me get it the day it was released.   I'm now looking at getting a wheel and joining up with a friend in rFactor.

If you ever feel the need to try a racing simulator and not play an arcade game... I highly recommend iRacing. :D

How about you try Shift 2 before you bring iRacing in here.  :D

I was a beta tester for rFactor because ArtLaw gave me the address many years ago.   rFactor 2 is what I am waiting for.

Also.  I said my son wanted it and got it.

Kazaa .. iRacing is ok.

I have never tried it but I do read, look, and some people here that I respect say it is ok.

For those that I have tried .. Grand Prix Legends, hangin the nose of my Eagle 6 inches off the wall in a perfect 4 wheel drift on the long right-hand sweeper in Spa and coming within a *hundredth* of a second on each consecutive lap was the most immersive simulator I have run .. GPL was done by the guys who are doing iRacing.
I worked with them doin NASCAR 2002 and 2003 at Papyrus. That was also fun, but a whole different kind of racing.
Those who think 'go fast, turn left' is a no-skill no-brainer haven't got a clue.

I have tried a few other sims along the way.

Forza 3 models physics down to tire deflection during hard cornering.
If you think it's a 'video game' ..by all means show your ignorance.

They used laser targeting to model the cars and the tracks .. every bump is there and the cars are more accurate than when they built them. It 'feels right' all the way through.

And yes .. I an NHRA Brackets for decades, ran Gymkhana events in everything from my '69 Road Runner to my '87 CRX ..even managed to wring out a 427 '69 Vette a time or two over the years.

Dis .. is *not* a toy!
