I downloaded the mission but, when I go to open it I get a "AH has stopped working" message.

I downloaded it to the missions folder. An old squaddie told me to try the Missres folder but same problem there too.

I must be doing something fundamentally wrong?

I would download it to your desktop.
Unzip it there.
Place the usajapan.mis file into your AHII misstemp folder.
place the usajapan.res file & usajapan.res folder into your AHII missres folder.

I placed the Main file in the Misres file.
I also placed the res file in the res file.
And, I placed the mis file in the Misstemp file.

I deleted the files I had downloaded earlier.

I still got the AH has stopped working message.
As far as AH is concerned I have not downloaded anything recently except for the normal "patches" that come out.
Do I need to download mission editor seperately? I though that happened when game updates were made.

The Mission Editor is included when you download the game.
I don't know why it's not working for you.  It sounds like you have
the files in the right locations.

I noticed now that all of my earlier missions that played, don't play any more. The second I hit the "practice missions" button I get the AH has stopped working message.

Maybe I should move this to Tech help?........

I appreciate the help any way, and look forward to trying your missions when I can.

Thanks HellFire, Glad you like them.
I plan on making more, once the Mission Editor is updated.

All of the offline missions are working for me, just not the Mission Editor.  That usually needs to be fixed, after we have a big update.

The ones that are set to private are the same missions as the ones in my signature, but they
contain sound effects.  This new mission editor don't seem to like wav. files for some reason.
All the missions you found do work though.

Noah I was having problems a month ago and finally got frustrated enough to rip all of AH out and reinstall.  Now everything works.  I'm about to dl this mission and see if I have the same problems you do.  

If you decide to go that route be sure to back up your AH folder somewhere so you can recover all of your settings without having to spend a week doing it.  Back in a few.

Edit: It's working just fine for me.  Just did a quick and dirty flight / fight.  Didn't even start my TIR. 

I can't prove it and haven't seen anything about it but all of the updates and patches kind of seemed to make my old install wonky.  It seems solid now so something you might try.
