you had one for warbirds.
I loved it.
gave a sense of a lifespan to a virtual pilot to see how long you could keep one alive. it gave a bit of immersion.
I want a kill streak counter so I can die more than once in a tour and streak again.
current and longest ever streak counters please.
current streak: 94
longest streak ever: 172
the warbirds counter did not count discos as ending the streak btw.

Probably the last thing I need in life but HOT DIGGITY, it would be pretty darn awesome! I think my longest streak in a plane is only like 21. It would be pretty cool to be able to track it better.

No way man!!! Although, last tour I was basically flying 262 only for Fighter. Got the K/D up pretty high before I made a bad upward pass on one of those FB guys and died. I logged, took a xanax and opened a bottle of Single Barrel. But I only stopped flying for like 2 hours.

well just think about someone who has flown since beta the last great challenge is a flawless tour.
in fact I remember my last streak attempt before this one. it ended quite early a few days after the tour started. so I didn't fly the rest of the tour...
and I didn't fly for a couple years after that tour either.
you want flashy objects for people with small attention spans to stay interested right?
a kill streak counter and best ever kill streak counter is a flashy bright shiny object that can do this for quite a few people who are interested in such things.

So you take years off in between kill streak attempts and you want a glory counter before you disappear again? Why not just keep track of the count yourself? Unless it's only about getting more "look at me!" notoriety, which I will give a -2 instead of a -1.

that's it? as long as you been here? Hell I heard you were one of the greats.... I have only flown in about 54-56 tours...and I have over 17,000 kills...and NOBODY can accuse me of flying "smart" :D
as far as streak counter would be cool for those that enjoy that type of thing :aok

So your enemy would see your icon with say *50 (the * indicating 5 kills in a row without dying) next to your name. All well and good looking up your score and thinking great look at my KD but having your enemy know your on one will be more exciting for hunter and hunted alike. :aok
Nothing more impressive than 5 wingmen with racks of 10+ stars, your enemy has to think twice whether they want to take your streak or run in the opposite direction :ahand

Not sure if that would really mean that much. I kind of imagine it would encourage that much more 'safe' flying, just to get numbers next to your name.

the effect is usually the opposite. The guys with no stars have nothing to lose because they don't care about streaks. so they will want to kill the star guy more.

I'm all for a streak counter icon as well. you get hunted either way if your on a big fat 100+ kill streak.
and if you die and die you will with a streak icon, streak counter and best streak counter ever...
you can roll again an start streaking without waiting for the rest of the tour to start over.
if anything it would make the unskilled and timid players more aggresive and fangs out going for the kill on a guy wth a big kill streak.
look what the 262 jerk tag does to people minds.
now imagine a 109k4 with a 50+ streak tag and see how much skill he has to employ to survive as the streak gets higher with that jerk tag.

give it to me let me hang myself with this virtual dead mans noose because I am a sadomasochist looking for a challenge that involves flying to live and making people flying to kill and be killed fly with fangs out aggressive as hell towards me and anyone flying to live on a kill streak.
you worry about oo its gonna make people timid? a few will yes but the majority will fly even more aggressively to kill the streaker.
you know its true and all the proof you need is the 262/f4u4/tempest/spit14 jerk tags to know this.
like a perk plane people in this virtual world are proof that humanity is a crab bucket.
other crabs will drag a crab trying to escape the bucket back into the bucket.
They will hunt and kill the streaker and the streaker will have more challenge than they can deal with if they attempt said streak.
balance is maintained if not increased in agressive tendancies of the masses in regards to engaging in a spirited fight.
Now I want:
Jerk Tag for kill streak on the icon.
109K4-94 Thats 94 kills I have right now this tour (1 disco dosnt count if you go by these rules) and I havent died.you know you want to wreck that streak like a losing team wrecking a perfect game!

see bruvs for it. one of the few others capable of a big kill streak he is yes.
and this streak counter would be across all scoring types. dies once in gv/bomber/attack fighter and it should reset.
if your gonna streak don't game the system. live or get killed.
streak reset upon any death or capture but not ditch or disco please.
discos are to random and cruel.

ya I wouldn't be surprised at all...when we fought in the DA a couple weeks ago I was very impressed with the 51 flying, not many can whip that thing around slow and compete with a KI.

When I did 50 aces in 3 days, I vowed to never attempt it again for my own sanity and the fact it was nearly impossible to repeat.
There comes a point where you consciously know the pressure is building up, I mean when you reach the 100 or so kills mark, this is the easy part, but then one mistake, one buff gunner, one random ack gun can kill it. I only felt comfortable with such pressures because I routinely picked up rack after rack and it was rare to see my plane without some rocks.
It then comes down to pure luck and having 200% SA watching every dot and paranoid map reading. If guys like Fester want this bizarre form of torture when they are flying then why not?
not hard to implement many games do it, even on WW2OL they have it.

I sure don't care either way. But I wonder if it's worth the time to code it? Seems like a piece of paper and a pencil to make hashmarks next to the comp would work just as well :)

What realism does displaying the kill streak counter next to a plane icon give?
A pilot in real life wouldn't know how many kills the enemy plane had.
As I understand it a lot of other flight comabt sims use this feature, there has to be a reason?

the Germans painted all sorts of kill markings on their planes, not that you would have seen them in any great detail because they were like WHOOSH!!!
I also read somewhere that some guy in WW1 even painted his entire plane bright RED :O

That would imply we wish to promote trying for kill streaks. Have you considered how promoting kill streaks would effect the game?

A compromise that is bad for game play is not a good compromise but a bad compromise. As far as I have seen in this thread no one has listed one reason why going for a streak is good for game play.
The score system has always been about trying to promote a balance of wanting to live and flying aggressive, and the need to get kills. Nothing in this thread really convinces me for any need for a change. Event the current landed 2 kill message is designed with both in mind, nothing lost if you have not gotten your 2nd kill by dieing. But after 2 kills more people want to try land.

The point seems to be that kills streaks would give players a reason not to fight. So playerA is on 9 or so and has a opportunity to fight playerB. For whatever reason he thinks he can't win and wants to protect his streak so he bugs out. Not so much fun for playerB.

I don't think it would increase timidness because it can't exactly get much worse :t. The benefits are the guys actually trying for it will have something to work for. Even if HT changes his mind a simple scoring stat as Fester first wished for would have no visible impact in game because players still wouldn't know who is on what. Having it visible just means players can target them better.
Will people be more or less likely to HO if they try and get a 5th kill?

Give real credence to a kill streak.
Realistically, for historical immersion, it should be a "live" streak. Die once and game over.

depends what way you look at it.
Would a guy with no aces HO a guy with a streak? for sure, people do that to perk rides and any other rides already.
The guy on streak isn't going to HO in case he rams the guy or takes fatal damage. This also happens already in the sense that someone with ACM would pass the shot up.
It all goes around in circles but I can't agree that having a streak would mean an increase in timidness. The majority of the player base do not care about score or stats after all. For the pilots that have to artificially manipulate their streak, they will die eventually anyway. Just like the people who do that already in fighter mode.
I don't mind either way and I will let Fester debate some more if he wishes.
edit: Ok I read those other two threads regarding the same thing, I even got a screenshot in go me :) hehe. I like the idea of one streak plane per month and suns idea

I think the net result if you gave them say a 100 perk reward, is some more fun rides being explored and flown instead of the late war monsters.

so I'm reading this thread and thinking i really liked the ace tags we had in FA and some good conversation was going... just as i get to thinking "what does the bass think, he probably wont say as he tends to keep quiet on alot of talks on the boards" I read..

IMHO it makes the guys who die, chase the guys who stay alive more. The guys who stay alive allready, fly with a wingman more often.
The guys who die still die, and the guy who likes to stay alive gets to see who is just as good or better. I never had more than 30 ace's in FA that i recall but i rarely ever had zero..
We basically allready have this in game with (so and so landed 5 kills in his p40) but what we don't have is "so and so is up to 4 kills in his p40 and if his butt gets home safe he can show you its true." As well as the fact that if you land your kills, you start over. Even though you didn't die. So this could be a 2 part question.. 1. Could we have a kill streak on our tag. And or 2. could we keep our "so and so landed 5 kills" until we we wanted to truly get ride of them? Landing and getting a new aircraft was not uncommon for WWII fighters and well they didn't have to start there kill count over again when they did.
But Ty for the smile anyway you choose sir.

Having a kill streak counter will promote an increased level of timid flying just like that contest HiTech ran a few years ago. If someone is that interested, why not just keep track on an Excel sheet like someone suggested in a previous post or is it just another "Hey look at me, I'm uber!" wish request?

Fishu's record is one of the few things (actually can't think of any other) that have stood this long and not been outdone.

Thats the fundamental difference between Warbirds "Name in lights" and AH. Warbirds gives you your name in lights for a decent streak.

I cant remember for sure what his streaks were but I seem to recall one evening (then on the only map we had, beta) he landed 30 something kills in a 190. This was back before re-arm people, when 90 players in the (only) arena was a full house. Go figure? I could only guess how he did it. :joystick:

wow that's amazing, mine is 12 kills in a seafire without rearming. all vulches :).

30 kills without a rearm? Are you sure you wasn't mistaken? :headscratch:

the 190 has enough ammo for it, if you vulch.
I never could land more than 13 without a rearm. Was in a 262, and all were vulchers :devil

In Warbirds if you had received damage before the disco a kill was awarded to whomever damaged you and your streak ended.

It could still be exploited.. EG fly into all sorts of trouble and every time you see you've flown into a dead end, disco.

Anybodys. I've seen grizzs 99 kills in the jet in one sortire. I've seen Kazaas kill streak but no one elses. Its interesting to me.

Vulching used to be much easier. Also killing GVs. Not only M3s, but you used to be able to cripple (forced tower) or kill panzers with 50s and 30mm.
I think I did 35 kills in one go with a D9 once, only half of those A2A. The rest popping tank turrets and killing lots of M3s
