you can kinda do it already, just not instant. talk to them IN the the thread.

It's been said, but above the posts you will see "My Messages". Click on it. You have 3 links: New Message, Outbox and Inbox. My preferences are set to popup a new window if I have a PM. (Click on left-"Personal Message Options" you will see "Save a copy"...and "Show a popup" checkboxes)

I personally like the idea. There are sometimes when you need to communicate with another board member in hopes of a quick reply, but sometimes have to wait a few hours to days before you get a message back. And, even though this would push the BBS to be more like FB and other social networks, it might prove to be useful.

So, I give it a +1

And can you imagine the moderator headache when some dummy gets his butt muted in the arena, then lurks in the BBS waiting on his 'target' to log in and go at him from there?

Sounds like an administrative headache waiting to happen.
