Title: FSO event staffers
Post by: Butcher on April 09, 2011, 09:44:37 AM
Was brought to my attention last night, I had a brief conversation with Krusty and Plissken about how the FSO was setup. I might of stepped on some toes, but I was curious to know how the FSO was setup in such a way (for example my flight of 9 ran into well over 30 fighters while escorting buffs). I threw out the "historically speaking" and found out I was way off! I rest my Arm Chair, and would like to see behind the scenes on how the FSO events are planned, if its possible I may review a previous FSO setup or to speak with anyone who is an event staffer.

Much appreciated and I thank you guys each with a 6 pack of your choosing, put it on DH367th's tab!

The closest description is that FSO is a historically based squad event.  What this means is that we try to match the historical planesets with balanced sides in terms of numbers.  Historically speaking there was never much of a fighter defense over Japan, but in order to make the event interesting for both sides, in this case since the Allies have a vastly superior planeset, the numbers are slightly favoring the Japaneese side.

Now, what you experienced was something beyond the FSO admin control.  There is ample opportunity, despite the concerted effort to balance sides, that unequal sized groups will be assigned to attack or defend certain targets.  This is something that cannot be avoided as it is a product of the planning of opposite sides of the war.  The fog of war is not something that can be easily dispelled.

Tracer pretty much covered it Butcher, but if you have any other questions I will be glad to answer all I can. Just shoot me a PM or e-mail.

No telling how things will turn out in an FSO. Sometimes you do run into an overwhelming force, but the CM's do their best to make things balanced. Nef certainly had concerns about that since the numbers had to favor the Axis this go around.

Holler if you want any details on the FSO process. I will be glad to explain it all. :)

The person to set down with for this frame is Nef.  Squire / Warloc is great as well.  I have had hours of conversations with those two.  Mostly our conversations center on how they want their event setup.  They dream this and build it way in advance.  Without sharing anything private, Daddog is already cracking the whip on the Admin design for July.  The funny thing is... Daddog is the Admin for July.  FSO is a funny place where people work long hours to try to make sure that your Friday nights are fun or frustrating (as some of my bomber crews found out).  Before joining the CM team I ran a squad in FSO.  As soon as I became a CM, the first thing I did was apologize to my two squad mates that were on the FSO team... I had no idea how hard they worked and how many things that were beyond their control.  The reward that we take aware from FSO is from you the players.  FSO has  a very committed following and fan base.  Ask some of the squads to tell you their FSO stories.  They will range from the depths of frustration to the heights of elation.  Every squad will tell you the story of that one night where everyone was laughing so hard.....

Horrible that I would even be credited with shooting down a friendly, I will find out who I shot down and apologize.

Edited:
23:58:55 Shot down a B-29 flown by Nosey.
23:58:56 Shot down a B-29 flown by Nosey.

Uhh this has to be an error, the time I shot down the first n1K which was:
23:06:23 Shot down a N1K2-J flown by Fish62.

After this engagement I was following the cons to the deck, which in fact there were no B29s in my sight after 23:06

I can only believe that its possible Nosey was trying to land and lost his drones which credits me with the kills.

Either way, I don't deserve 7 but infact 5.

Don't feel to bad about it. The more likely situation is that you pinged up a friendly plane and did not shoot him down. However, at some later point he died (could have crashed) or was finally shot down by the enemy (probably multiple shot him up) but you did statistically more damage to him than any one of them. Or they the first IJN shot him up bad then died and the second finished him with a short burst but your friendly fire did slightly more damage.

Friendly fire incidents happen and credited like this fairly often when we have large bomber engagements.

Please sir.  I meant the post in fun.  FSO is completely different than the main arena.  Several of the B29's were hit by friendly fire.  Easy to skew the guns around and hit a friendly.  No apology is necessary... But you do have an FSO story.  I look forward to hearing you tell many many more FSO stories.  ~~~ Snake~~~~
