Had a storm come through Bowie tonight a little before 10:00pm. For the first 5 mins nothing but hail was falling, no rain what so ever. This was definately the biggest hail I've seen. It didn't last long but it was IMPRESSIVE!!!
First a smaller piece that was clear. I always love the way these look!

A few I picked up out of the yard..

This does no justice to what I could see in the street but it was still lightening so i didn't want to spend time getting my tripod set up and taking a long exposure picture. So picture the whole street looking like this.

Once they get to the golfball size, your are screwed. Bigest i seen was about the same size as the second pic, last summer. That storm had produced, if i am not mistaking, the worlds recorded of the biggest hail.

:O :O :O

The storm that produced that hailstone you're talking about was in South Dakota. Here's a video I have saved of it (I didn't take this btw).

Tonight when I got home I knew there were some storms in the area so I pulled my car into the carport (which I NEVER do). Man I'm sure glad I did now!!
I gotta say since it was dark and I couldn't see the hail impacting the ground the most impressive thing was the sound! Wow they make quite a pop when they hit pavement!!

Ok, it may be Kansas. All i remember what that it was one of the worst hail storm Wichita and Wichita area seen. There was a hail that was believe to be the state or U.S. largest.

How's your car after those things?

Killer91, make sure you have your roof checked. Hail will destroy a roof. Its covered damages under your homeowners insurance.
We have had 2 very large hailstorms go thru the area in the last 2 years. Ive paid for more roof and siding replacments in 2 years than i have in my entire career here at the insurance company.
Damaged 3tab roof, this roof is shot. Dimensional shingles give you better protection, and are more resistant, but not always.

(I dont do cars but....) Regarding cars, imaging hitting golf balls at the hood, roof, trunk and sides.Even if the hail doesnt break the glass, it will dent the heck out of the car. Good thing is its repairable, and ive seen companys devoted to doing nothing but hail damage restoration.
Doubt this one is repairable, just an example of what it does to cars....

Thanks man! Roof is definately gonna have to be checked after that lol
-
Yup have the roof checked. Your insurance company can probably handle that. Then it would not hurt to have a roofing company come out and check too.
Impressive hail there.
-
I went up on the roof a few minutes ago but I don't see really any shingle damage. Just a little spot here and a little spot there. Definately nothing like the picture mbailey posted. It'll still get checked out by the insurance company regardless of what I find lol.
Here's a few pictures of what I did find though.

This was the only place that really looked like it took a shot.

I got caught in one of those on 309 with no doors/top. It came out of nowhere. My wife was covered in welts before I had gotten a chance to pull over. :O
We were on our way to Q-town to drop my kids off at mom's and 3/4 of the way there when it started. By there time we got back to Lansdale, it was all over and there was an enormous rainbow over the house.
My radiator is still full of hemi-spherical dents :D

PM sent Killer
Von, thats crazy. When i say ive paid close to 1/2 a million dollars this past year on hail storm damages, it wouldnt be an exageration (its probably more). More roofs and aluminum siding than in all my years of this job..... Crazy stuff, we actually had some of our hurricane teams up here helping out. With the lack of any big hurricanes this year, and the weather we have been having, we had plenty of work for them :aok
