Post by: jolly22 on April 11, 2011, 03:31:26 PM
With the size of the next update, its probably going to be a new version, im very excited to bring everything in, Its gonna be great, BUT would it be better to spread all these updates out for business reasons?

What is wrong with it being a new version?  Does v2.24 cause problems, or are you thinking it will be 3.00?  I'd be shocked, honestly, if it were 3.00.

When the game itself is free, then what would be the point of spreading it out?  Game updates take a lot of work and a lot of bandwidth so for a small business it makes sense to release a bunch at the same time.  This way, most bugs only take a couple weeks to sort out, instead of having to constantly release bug fixes for constant updates...

Alrighty, that makes since, Im just thinking that people will keep coming back each month for 7 Months, realeasing 1 update a month. But that is just my ideas.

I am just waiting to see.  I am always impressed.  :aok

It is my feeling that HTC has definitely picked up the pace of updates, or maybe he is sharing the information more via front page (notice the cool Greebo GOON update).  Anyhow, I am backing off my wishlists for now, and just keeping my fingers crossed.  One thing for sure the game sure is looking prettier.  Sorry, had to get one more "eye candy" dig in.

Wouldn't AH 3.00, be AH3?

Next version will be 2.25 right?

It's starting to look like they will update everything to a minimum of what the B-25 is currently at.  Though I am honestly hoping everything is updated to the A6M5/B-29.  With the C-47A now up there, I am going to guess the next thing we see is the B-26 or one of the GV's (probably the Panzer or the Tiger).

To be honest, if they decided to hold off on everything till it's all up-to-date, I wouldn't mind one bit.  When they release the new tank drive system and the change to the gunners on the bombers, having everything up-to-date may help out quite a bit.  I'm sure there will be people who will disagree with me on this though...

As for the call on what version, as is (if they decided to go with what we see), 2.30.  If they brought everything up-to-date (A6M5/B-29 standard), I would be surprised if it didn't jump to AH3.

This would be monumental!   :O   The only thing is, I hope there is not 30 private servers so the 400 players are strung out 15 in a server.  If HTC does allow private servers, I hope that it is controlled to the point that MA game play is not diminished too much.   Although, it would be very neat to host a server and limit which aircraft would be allowed in the air ("ENY 15 or higher only", etc).  Oh, and the ability to pick and choose with maps are used.  Mundano or whatever it is would get tossed if it were in my server, that map is horrid.

Because I am so used to unreasonable complaints that I read your post as we should have already release each change vs what you meant when I re read it  being, we should hold on to the changes and release each later would make better business sense.

Sorry for jumping on you, and I wish there was but no scotch was consumed yesterday.

Well I only hope my old computer will run the new version when it comes out. I saw a lot of old timers bail from the game on the last big up date.  Guys who play since Air warrior days left. I hope that will not be the case for me. I love this game but no extra cash for a new computer at this time.
I will keep my fingers crossed.

I spent 280 bucks to update my old athlon thunderbird 1.2 to a phenom II 555 black edition cpu at 3.2 ghz.

All I changed was cpu, motherboard, memory, and power supply and got a huge performance boost while also removing all expansion cards.

Motherboard with integrated graphics.....Asus M4A785-M.......$79.00
Processor................phen omII 555 black edition...................$89.00
2 gigs of memory......(xp only recognizes 3)..........................$27.99
550 watt power supply....................... ............................. ..$39.00

I did add much larger cpu cooler with quiet fan.......................$29.00

I just used the legacy ide port for the cd and hard drive and, though it reduces disk performance greatly, it runs the game fine.

The graphics is a weak integrated ati HD4200 but it plays the game fine at 60fps.

Of course.....assembling this and making it work could open up a huge can of worms fiddling with drivers and settings as about 50% of builds/upgrades seem to do.

Nothing has changed that should have any effect on frame rates.

Guys who play since Air warrior days left.

We have?  Heck, I've seen just the last tour about 4 old AW guys that have finally made their way to AH.  I think you're attributing normal attrition for customer dissatisfaction.  Those of us that came from AW have been at this for a long time and its natural that over time our numbers are going to decline as real life and other factors start to draw us away.
