Title: Bomber Drones Too Timid?
Post by: 100Coogn on April 11, 2011, 10:43:03 PM
Really?

                      Let's not lose our drone's

This is the only movie that could justify what I'm trying to say, so don't make something out of nothing...
I happen to love this show...

:lol Just talking about how that they can't make a (sector) turn is all...

Drones certainly do fly a bit timid. I mean, I love flying about 3 feet off the top of the water
yet the  drones don't seem to want to drop any lower than 100 (approximate) feet!

Rose, you need to watch out for those Pt boats at that alt.
Helluva speed bump...

the trick is to reduce the airspeed by climbing while turning, in a high yoyo...As loong as you're slow enough the drones will even follow a Himelmann.

Clearly you haven't seen them do the "ole" full flaps 180 degree turn on a dime stunt. :O Or has that exploit been fixed?

They shortened the leash. Harsh manuvers should not be possible anyway. I can turn with 45-degree bank without losing drones. It's when you slam that rudder and bank past 45 degrees that you lose your drones. This is the price you pay for manuvering tightly in a heavy lumbering bomber. You want to do that? You can go ahead. You'll just be doing it alone.

My drones chickened out a while back!
I took off into one of those nice hills   someone put the end of a runway at,  power on roll roll roll   pulled up flaps flaps flaps, turn hard left pull pull pull, almost 130 degrees later and stable  i look back for my drones,, there they sit,  in the grass   what a bunch ack huggin losers those guys must be!

BTW who thought it would be cool to put hills at the end of runways?

I've had drones get ahead of me on a landing approach with cross controls or 'side slip.'

Is this a new thing?  Or did this always happen?

The drones are timid..... whenever I get close they shoot at me.

Bombers should be making very slow and minute maneuvers.  I would not mind if HTC made the drone even more slow to re-group and even more quick to fall out of formation.

People need to realize that the throttle has more than two settings.

When I'm executing a turn in bombers I hop into a gunner position and use the rudder input to turn.  Maintains alt and speed!

That's part of the "exploit" I was talking about. Full flaps, full throtle, jump into a turret and you used to be able to spin the whole formation on a dime. I haven't seen it lately though.

Many do not take advantage ot that......... :D

:huh  :headscratch:

What do you mean?  Or are you counting 'off' as a setting?

Ahh sorry I mistook this as another (bombers shouldn't get drones) thread or some such lol. :)              And like has been posted earlier just drop throttle and they turn fairly well and if you really have to a slight climb will suck the drones right up with you as you turn.  the trick is to get your speed and alt leveled out for your return drop when you turn on a target thats not very distant. :)

:rofl
Guess I'll just have to keep a closer eye on them.  Haven't really flown them too much since their leashes were made a little longer.

Never used flaps when doing that, and never have I been able to make a really sharp turn without losing my drones.  It usually took a sector or so to make a 180 degree turn, all the while maintaining alt and speed.

When flying NOE, do the drones that fly higher than 65 feet generate a dot in enemy dar?

Does a bomber formation show up as three dots on radar?

Absolutely! This should be changed. Sneaking up on a CV is nearly impossible because of the 2 scared drones unwilling to get that close to the water. Is there a good reason for this?   :headscratch:

Perhaps it's some small compensation for allowing you guys to dive-bomb in your Lancstukas.  :D

I'm pretty sure I can kick the crap out of anybody who uses "timid" on a regular basis.
