Out of curiosity, what is the difference between "history" and "social studies" down there? When I was in school here they were one in the same.

I despise the Internets, but googles are user-friendly and helpful.
I really like googles chrome

the only two subjects i have ever gotten above a 74 in are music and english. two of the (as far as i know) most useless things i can think of, in terms of an occupation. :(

I got an A for effort in band class. Weighing in at a whopping 125 pounds and a towering stature of 5'6" at the start of my freshman year, I was by far the shortest and lightest of all the sousaphone players. I also did well in history.

... because knowing how to properly speak, read and write the language of your homeland is useless and most rock stars lead a life of abject poverty...

We happened to get our 3rd quarter report cards on Monday or Tuesday...
Chemistry-92
German IV- 91
AP History of the US- 96
Junior Honors English- 91
Calculus I- 88
It's a good thing I'm finally starting to get good grades now that I only really have 2 marking periods before I have to start submitting college educations and my cumulative GPA is locked a lot lower than I'd like it.
Note: don't do that.

Dang!....I thought "swedish report card" was something like a "rusty trombone".

I work in a company which sometimes hires fresh college graduates, and I can tell you English majors (or people with strong written and spoken communication skills) are most certainly not useless. If you enjoy that subject, stick to it. You may want to check out some public speaking and/or debate classes too, if available. See how you like those, because developing a strong communication skill set will get you a long way in the job market.

AP English 91
AP Calculus 89
US Govt. Honors 97
Physics Honors 95
The weighting system at my school works so that instead of adding .5 or 1 to the classes worth on a 0-4 scale, 3 or 5 points are added to your final grade at the end of the semester, depending on honors or AP, and all classes are counted equally so you cannot achieve a GPA higher than 4.0...so those are really 96, 94, 100, and 98, lol.

lmao! i thought the same thing and was gonna post it, but was seeing if anyone else said it first.

Ugh didn't have the balls for AP Calculus.
I'm doing a 'Calculus II' class next year but it's... not really Calc II... but there were a lot of kids who didn't want to take Probability and Statistics (regular classes suck...) or regular Calc II (which is set up to take the Calculus BC AP test), so I'll be able to take the Calculus AB AP test with 2 years of Calculus under my belt (which is good, I'm not all that good at math).
We don't do the 4 point grade scale at my school, so I've never known how that works. AP classes are weighted 1.08 and Honors 1.04 for us.
-
I was looking forward to AP calc, and it was fun...the problem was that the teacher only taught AB stuff. We finished it early so myself and two of my friends are just self studying the BC portions and taking that test instead. You get an AB sub score that colleges look at also for credit, regardless of how well you did over all. I don't see the disadvantages of trying BC, except that my school refunds your $87 test fee if you get a five, and I'm not sure if we'll need to get 5s on the whole thing [BC] or if our AB sub scores can count...
I am just god awful at English though. Some how I can be great at historical essays and analyzing the fall of the USSR's economy, but that doesn't translate at all to writing about poems... I love the books, just can't put what I'm understanding into well organized words for some reason.
If you need help getting some calc concept feel free to hit me up...not so much for Faulkner or Salinger.
-
my AP Calc in my high school is through the University of Pittsburgh. we get 4 credits of college for it if you pass it.

i think social studies is more the social activities of the period being studied. like how hippies are connected to the 60's, gangstas to the 30's-50's.and the lifestyle of the people of that era.
history is more the study of the country or world as a whole.
