Title: Official 2011 Dayton Gathering

Once again it's time for a party in Dayton!
Same Place as the last 2 years. Here's the Info. PM me here with questions.
This is NOT a KOA Campground or Public Facility. This is Private Land. (Check 2009 Gathering page 10 for pics)
It's called Great Miami Adventures.
Located at 1995 Ross Rd. Tipp City, OH 45371
Sits right on the Great Miami River (Yes, he has Canoe's, Rafts ect. available)<<--I'm thinkin a Group Down River Trip this year (weather and water level permitting)
He has plenty of room for several RV's and 4-5 50Amp services for those.
Tents can go just about anywhere you wanna set up.
Indoor Shower and Bathroom for those who just can't use a PortaPotty Excuse me?!?!
Multiple Fire Rings along the River.
We'll have a Giant 150 Foot Water SlipNSlide setup for entertainment
Swings into the River (he got a big hole dug out under it)
Fishing if you like (Bring your Pole)
I recommend Life Jackets if your playing in the water. (Some will be available)
Plenty of Tables and Chairs under Pole Tents (Bring your own Chairs if you want comfy)
Of Course there are plenty of Hotel/Motels close by for those not into Camping.
Camping will be 10 dollars a head per night.
Saturday Party goers only will be asked to contribute to the Campground ($10 a head is typical)
(Many bring Food, Beer, prizes, ect.)
Live Music will be planned for Saturday Night (Weather permitting) (Will pass a hat for donations)(last year the band was very happy!)

This years Dates are July 22nd-24th 2011 (actually falls on the 4th weekend of 5)
This is basically an all weekend party with Airshow and Wright-Patt Air Museum close by.
Main Party is Saturday Night after the Airshow.

Hope all the past attendees will be coming back, you all really make it a true party (You know who you are)

Please respond with at least a simple Yes or No and total members in party so I can get a head count.

I am ending my five year tradition of a midwest aces high meet I started in 06' now that we moved to Seattle and it looks as though SHawk will be keeping a midwest one going. :aok

Now that I am on the west coast those of you over here on the left keep an eye on this thread ...

Yeah, I'll setup both tents (Very Large) for those that come in and need a place to sleep. I'm sure getting a cart from chris will be no problem at all. :aok

I think my biggest gripe of the Dayton gatherings is Ski Patrol...

Seriously... I like meeting new people but I didn't drive to Dayton to hang out with non-AH flying locals. It seems like most of the people the campground owner new personally. I understand that it's his property and he is going to invite who he wants, but I think it was a little out of hand last year. It was obvious they did not want to mingle with us cartoon pilots, at one point on Saturday a car load of high school kids cruised through, by evening time my tent was surrounded by Ski Patrol... Did they pay for the party too like we did?

I still had a great time, but you know me... I'm more paranoid than this avatard >>> :noid

Not sure who your talking about, I had a few friends there and my son had a few. Couldn't have been more than 6-7 peeps and yes they paid like everyone else.
If Chris knew em, they might have been his teen daughters friends, Not sure.
You may have to point them out to me this year if you see em.
You also need to remember that Chris is running a Canoe Livery there and will have customers all weekend.

as long as you didn't hear banjo music, you were safe, and as for 2010 your right, I made it and don't know too many stranger than I. Still wish I could be there this year but after a second stroke the Dr said no travel for about a year, which is good since I'm on a cane just to get around now, not sure how that would work out after a few boots of Beer might have to be carried around. This new job will enable me to get to things such as this around the country. If theres room for me (even just the truck if need be) Id seriously consider putting in for a couple days off in dayton.

I'm sure we could put him up on Top of the Hill. I wouldn't even try bringing it down to the river even if it was just the cab.
But I will confirm this with Chris (Campground Owner) to be sure.

Wappo generally gets a group for the airshow early sat morning at the campground, SHawk and I were discussing a group canoe trip... from what i remember lastyear (due to mass alcohol consumption) it was pretty well do as you please tho. I plan on getting a group together for the airforce museum for sunday morning/afternoon. :rock

Rat, Usually the newer folks go to the Air Show on Saturday and Museum on Sunday. But yes you can do as you please.
As for Saturday night Party you can bring anything you want and cook it on the grills or we can order things in from many surrounding eateries.
Most of us head over to Kroger (Local Supermarket 3-4 miles away) and grab a steak or burgers and cook it there. :aok
We probably will do a Canoe Trip down the river Saturday afternoon and have it end at the party sight.

If you come to the camp ground friday night you can probably make arrangements to get in with Wappo's Van load and get into the airshow free. :banana:

Thought changeup agreed to be the commumity sheep this year? No betty this year so I gotta find a different pillow to poop in. fyi july 24th is the first day of the 9th jet world masters at wpafb museum, tons of rc jets to check out, should be some static and flying displays to anyone interested. Definatly worth a look if youve never seen them

No questions, just a familiar face I've seen at all the gatherings I've been too so far. Hadn't seen him post or anything so I was wondering if he was going to make it.

havoc has been a huge part of the past gatherings supplying tons of beer and soda and gifts for everyone. A Very cool dude indeed.
Would be a shame if he didn't make it, hope he can even if he's empty handed. We have really appreciated all he's done. :cheers:

I had a Quad system (atx mid-tower) that was going to be sold this weekend and the person backed out. I also have an AK-47 underfolder that someone was supposed to have bought from me by now that hasn't. These were my ways of financing the trip. Last great hope is a free slot tournament this weekend in Biloxi plus using $280.00 I have in free-play. If the miracle doesn't happen, I'll miss this one. I'm pissed and bummed out at the moment.

I guess, I should have brought a tent to sleep in, due to the A/C at the Englewood Holiday Inn not working very good for the two nights I stayed there. Made it back home to North Alabama ok. But made a mistake and stayed overnight at the Horseshoe Casino across the Ohio River in Indiana near Louisville,Ky were we left most of our traveling money.

That's a bummer BJ. We were hoping you'd get back OK. I heard that Becinhu might have had some issues with his truck on the way home too. No update yet though.

Post by: Becinhu on July 26, 2011, 10:01:51 PM: Made it back. The truck blew a spark plug in Columbus. Darn thing sounded like a lawnmower all the way home and sucked gas terribly. Hopefully it only shattered the top of the plug and didn't blow out the threads.

FLying wasn't horribly difficult, landing on the other hand......I woulda made Corky proud landing my 38. Cartwheeled it down the runway and broke of just about everything. No smoke or fire though.

As for the truck it did blow the threads out of the head. My dealership gave me an estimate of around $800, so I called a friend who works at Ford. Truck sat at my dealership for 10 days without moving, Ford had it done in 6 hours for $321.

Post by: Dragon on August 10, 2011, 11:15:34 AM: We had a Dodge Caravan that blew one out. I bought the Helicoil (sp?) kit, inserted the new threads, reinstalled the plug. Done in 1 hour, $25. :)

I didn't get a chance to test the sim till late Sat night and by then it had broken. :mad: But, I did enjoy sitting on the cots drinkin a few cold ones in the A/C.
