I like most of the new updates, thanks HT and staff....but the A S D W controls for gv's, well how to put it.....is tough on us :old: guys who don't have nimble fingers. I play this game cuz we had j/s for everything, now its kinda gone the way of XBOX and PS3. I don't play cuz of them stupid buttons you have to push. My vote is to have either A S D W or j/s. Also the sighting on the tanks has been DUMBED down, almost like F3 mode for bombers. Just my 2 cents worth :neener:

It doesn't really make sense to me that you shouldn't be able to have each axis correspond with the related key (x axis for for ad and y axis for sw).
Or, have sw correspond with a throttle and ad correspond with rudder. The awsd thing is kind of corny in my opinion as well.
That said, I don't really see how the sighting system has been dumbed down.
Seems to me like GV'ing may actually be fun now.

You can still map the W,A,S,D keys to a 4 way switch on your stick in mode 2. works good like that.
-
How have the sights been dumbed down? No more 40x zoom and the same sights for every tank?
tiger and panther can now do zero radius turn.. tiger will probably be worth the price again (if yer engine runnin, slow turret traverse is no longer too much of a handicap). if anything, learning the new tank sights is something to have fun with.
-
Playing with it off line, I do like the new sights...as for the a and d keys to turn the GVs...not so much.
-
For me the new sight system allows you to "fine tune" your shots much better while using the mouse and in the gunner position.

That's a great idea :aok
-
You can also map an analog control to "Sight Range" in mode 2 if you do not like using the mouse

For thos of you who don't understand.....

It can't be any more clear.
No more whining.

lol....4 keys that correspond with their direct... W in in the lead of the group (forward) , S BEHIND (reverseee), A is to the...well...LEFT...and D...the RIGHT.. >.>
As for the guys who have arthritis etc. that's fine, but I mean come on...It's not THAT hard...
You all just need to hop in WoT for a month then realize how lucky you are.

Guess it was broke before? This will help the new folks and handicap the folks who have been here. lol

How do I get the GV to move again... :bhead

The old DOS computers weren't "broke", yet we have made incredible advances since then. The "it ain't broke don't fix it" argument is rather neanderthalistic.

Have yet to try the GV'ing.
Tonight for sure, just because of all these posts on it...

ya, dos wasn't broke until someone whined about wanting to multi task...then all hell broke loose and now look, 64bit operating systems, multi core cpus, tons of memory...and people still want more.

my friend has an 8 core....
I thought my dual core was B.A. .......then I used his comp... 16 gigs of ram....
4 TB of space....
WHY?!?!

OK. Can you tell me how I make a quick sharp left turn with a hat switch?
With the old joystick way of driving I just pushed the proportional joystick hard to the left. For a gradual turn I pushed it part way left. There's no "part way" with a digital switch; it's on or off.
-
you're in a tank...it's gonna be gradual anyway.

I'd like to map:
GV speed (W/S) to analogue throttle
GV turn (A/D) to analogue rudder
Lookaround/Gun to analogue stick pitch/roll (with the option of using the mouse)
as it seems the most obvious and intuitive way to do it.
is this possible? :headscratch:

Sometimes it's not just arthritis. Having everything HOTAS was nice.
Please remind me how lucky I am, again. Sometimes I have a hard time remembering, especially when it rains... :devil

And posts like this lead to the invention of Chapstick.

that's how it currently works for me. dont have to touch the mouse.

Quoted for truth. This works well and I was using it last night.

You need a much better comparison.
Computers are used in business. Computers are used to run everything from nuclear plants to the space station.

I'm very new here and only got about 4 weeks in GV's before this change but here is my take on it.
Using the keyboard is not unheard of in tanking games. Anyone who is familiar with Steel Beasts would be comfortable with using ASDW keys and the mouse for aiming the gun. I certainly find it much more finely controlled to use the mouse from the gunners position vs the joystick. I found using the joystick for driving before gave me more of a feeling of driving a tank but at the same time it seemed strange that I had to jump from the commander's position to the drivers just to stop or start the tank. A commander certainly can order "driver stop" and expect the tank to stop fairly quickly if the driver is awake.
The only thing that I've found a bit out of sorts was the fact that from the commanders position you can aim and fire the main gun very accurately on the move. I was able to "run and gun" a few tanks in the MA last night at close range which I think falls out of the realm of being "realistic" for WW2 era tanking. I was also able to shoot down two aircraft from the commanders position of the M4 using the Main Gun as well, while on the run. Hmmmmmm.
For me I like the keyboard driving from any position however I say let those that want the old JS control for the driver have the option. Also maybe reevaluate the ability of the commander to fire the main gun from his position.
