Title: Phantom Darbar
Post by: Chalenge on May 03, 2011, 07:57:26 PM
For weeks now (all of last month at least) I have been flying the Ta152 as bomber intercept. In doing that you learn to keep an eye out for lone darbars moving back and forth or skirting the dar rings. While doing that I (and a few others) have come across situations where a darbar moves from one sector to the next across a dar ring without showing a dot. It could be the game is setup with a max altitude for radar but the problem is if the darbar crosses the sector line like that and then vanishes altogether...

Seems like a bug.

This is true, as we see it on every Titanic Tuesday of late.  The bad part is it is hard to document to show the proof.  It is very common however that a radar signature will show up deep in our territory only to vanish a few minutes later.  Also it will move from one sector into another whereas the only way to cross from the direction would be through a radar ring (thus should be showing us the red dot), staying for a few minutes and then vanishing.  We have actually done tests with the Ta-152 at high altitudes (50k +) over enemy bases thinking the altitude may account for this phantom darbar, however that isn't the case either.  It's strange, and it sucks.

How exactly does a darbar cross a dar ring in the first place?  It's just a bar in the upper-left corner of the sector.  It has nothing to do with planes being inside a dar circle...why do you expect dots to show on radar?

There are some sectors that are completely covered with radar rings, from multiple fields.  Some sectors have, say the lower half of that sector completely covered within radar rings.  If a plane were to fly from one sector, heading into another sector which is completely covered by radar rings, the plane would show up within the zone of the radars.  So, what we see fairly often (and is very hard to show with a video, but we may have to try) is a red bar suddenly show up far into friendly (to us) bases, moving through sectors (the bar changes sectors) which are completely covered by radar rings, however there is no plane to be found.  Then, just as suddenly, it will disappear, just vanish.  It happens a lot on Titanic Tuesdays.
