Title: Kentucky Derby day
Post by: Rash on May 07, 2011, 06:27:26 AM
Spring is here, and little did they know what a horse was going to win in 73.

Edit

The movie version.  If you go to the races. get up against the rail in last 100 yards or so.  It sounds a lot like the movie clip.

Ran a "racino" (casino inside a racetrack) for a few years and one of the perks was an employees only area not only on the infield (semi-secret underground tunnel) and then again near the final pole.  Didn't matter if it was a simple early season race or the Derby, it was pretty cool to hear those horses thunder by.  I'd take new employees who have never even seen a race and take them down there right at the track's edge...their reaction was most always =  :x

It's the entire atmosphere as well...massive roast beef sandwiches and Rueben's the size of your head...salted peanuts....cold beer...mudddy faced jockeys walking back to the dressing rooms...non-winning tickets tossed in the air...discarded racing sheets all over the ground (the clean-up crews used suped up leaf blowers) and placing a few bucks on the longshots on a rainy/muddy day.

Sounds like fun Rox.   :x    That mud does fly, and some horses not to fond of it in their face.  Quarter horses really sling the mud.

My sister had a few race horses.  Two actually made money, and one of those was an ok stakes racer, but got hurt.  She had a lot more losers.

Noticed I had the wrong link for the movie version of Big Reds derby.  This is how it sounds close to the track.

I can't make a living at this, but dialed in looks quick.

The cougar quotient is unbelievably high at the derby as well as at Foxfield steeplechases the same day.

Nothing quite like Derby day (or Preakness day if you folks are near Baltimore in a couple of weeks...)
